Kroger.com is back with their regular deal that’s good for $10 off when you buy $150 or more in Visa or Mastercard gift cards online. This time, the promo code is “NEWYEAR2024.”

Quick Thoughts
Kroger does this sale every couple of months and it’s not as good as it initially seems. The problem is that Kroger.com doesn’t sell gift card denominations larger than $100. The $100 cards have a $6.95 purchase fee, while $50 cards have a $5.95 purchase fee. In addition, there’s a $0.50 shipping fee for each card. So, buying $150 worth of cards will end up costing $153.90, while purchasing $200 in cards will cost $204.90. Because online purchases are processed by Blackhawk Network, you can’t earn a grocery category bonus either. Even using a 2x card like the Amex Blue Business Plus or the Capital One Venture X only makes slightly better than a break-even deal.
These cards DO earn fuel points. Kroger has been running almost constant 4x fuel points promos over the last few months, so if you can buy them during the one that’s happening this weekend, you’ll net ~600 pts, good for 60 cents/gal off your next fill-up. The normal 2x rate will only get you ~300 pts.
