Quick Thoughts

It is always popular when Rakuten offers increased rates of return because Rakuten is well-regarded as a highly reliable shopping portal. I’ve rarely ever had an issue with a purchase tracking when I’ve clicked through from Rakuten.

Rakuten is also quite popular because the rewards can either be taken as cash back or as points. If you choose to earn Amex Membership Rewards points, a return of 15% can alternatively be 15 Membership Rewards points per dollar. With Bilt, you’ll need Bilt Silver status or higher to get those 15 points per dollar. Without elite status, you’ll only get 7.5 Bilt points per dollar.

Some of the merchants included today are quite popular for travel enthusiasts. Earning 15% or 15x back at Viator or TripAdvisor could certainly prove to be valuable for booking activities. That said, always make sure you compare against other portal options.

Just last night, I used a targeted email offer from Capital One Shopping for $75 back on $175 or more at TripAdvisor to book a round-trip airport transfer when we visit Atlantis, Bahamas, later this year. I’d rather have the $75 in Capital One Shopping rewards than the 15 points per dollar in that situation, though your mileage may vary. I’ve also pretty frequently been targeted for 30% or 45% back at Hertz and Sixt via Capital One Shopping. The comparison there isn’t apples-to-apples since Capital One Shopping rewards can only be redeemed for gift cards, and the portal is generally less reliable from a tracking perspective, but the moral of the story here is to be sure to compare to make sure you’re getting the best possible deal.

Note that while this deal is scheduled to end today, June 22nd, 2026, I wouldn’t be surprised to see continued elevated rates of return this week as retailers try to compete with Amazon Prime Day.

On the Rakuten website, it states that the “Big Stack” promo will run June 22-26, so we should see these elevated returns all week (presumably to compete with Amazon Prime “Day” also running all week).
