Update: Use promo code SAVE50. Valid for bookings made 6/15-6/17 for travel from 9/15/21 to 11/3/21. Note that this discount is valid on paid and award flights!
Southwest Airlines is offering 50% off flights booked 6/15/21-6/17/21. This is an amazing deal in many instances with a number of routes I’ve checked pricing below normal. Furthermore, the prices of Anytime and Business Select fares are also 50% off. These discounts only apply to cash fares (update: The discount now words on award tickets when you use promo code SAVE50), but since Anytime and Business Select fares are fully refundable, there is little risk in planning a speculative trip with those fares.
As you can see in the screen shot above, the 50% off deal applies in all fare classes, not just for Wanna Get Away fares. In some cases, the difference in price between the Wanna Get Away fare and the Business Select fare is less than the typical cost of A1-A15 boarding — and keep in mind that you also earn more Rapid Rewards points per dollar spent, get priority check-in and security where available, etc. If you don’t care about A1-15 boarding, an Anytime fare is fully refundable and gets you advantages like same-day confirmed changes without a fare difference and same-day standby.
Again, the discount here is valid on both paid and award tickets, which makes for some awesome deals.
If you currently have flights booked on Southwest, you should start searching immediately for opportunities to rebook at reduced fares. Keep in mind that the system may not have updated all routes and dates yet, though most of my searches showed the discount for flights into November (December flights aren’t discounted on the searches I’ve conducted so far — not sure if that will update later or if the peak holiday period is excluded).
Overall, there are plenty of great deals here for those who can plan travel through the end of the year. This could also be a great way to use up various credit card travel credits given the cheap prices of flights.
