With it being the first day of the month, there are lots of new Amex Offers out today. One of the notable travel-related offers is one giving 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards when spending $1,000 or more with Air France and/or KLM.

  • Offer valid only on purchases made in US dollars.

Quick Thoughts

This is a pretty good deal, especially seeing as the bonus Membership Rewards will presumably be awarded even if spending $1,000+ on taxes and fees on an award booking for one or more people.

Note that the terms state that travel has to originate in the US. If you were to book a one way or round trip award flight originating in the US, that’ll trigger the bonus points. However, if you were to book a one way award originating in Europe, that presumably won’t be eligible.

One of the best cards to use this on – if you’re targeted – is a personal Amex Platinum card. That’s because you’ll also earn 5x Membership Rewards; spending $1,000+ will therefore earn you a total of at least 25,000 Membership Rewards.

Does a DL codeshare flight booked on Air France dot com count? or does it have to be an AF or KLM coded flight?

william

I see some flights on Air France where you can fly AF or Delta One, one way Boston to Paris in business class, in December for $996 one way… could fly home from Paris to Boston on the points acquired from buying the flight with the Amex offer.

Any datapoints or thoughts on if this would work to pay for taxes and fees on an Air France partner booking (e.g. Virgin Atlantic metal), provided the flight leaves from the U.S.?

Adam

Terms say not valid on a partner site so I doubt it will work unless you’re paying through airfrance portal.
