Alaska Airlines has launched a new BOGO promo giving a free companion ticket on the same flight as you – you only have to pay for taxes and fees for your companion. You’ll need to book quickly though as this promotion ends tomorrow (September 20), but it can be worth it – especially if there’s a large group of you traveling.

Key Terms
- Buy one coach class ticket at the regular price and get a second ticket for just the taxes. Discount code is valid for 50% off Main base fare levels published at alaskaair.com. Valid for itineraries with a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of seven (7) people, traveling together and booked and ticketed at the same time in the same reservation and at the same fare; valid for one-way or round-trip travel. Not valid on First Class fares.
- Discount code is valid between all Alaska Airlines cities, excluding Prudhoe Bay (SCC). Not all flights operate on all days. Discount does not apply to government-imposed taxes and airport fees. Cannot be combined with other promotions. Discount code must be applied towards purchase of ticket by 11:59 pm (PT) on September 20, 2021.
- Travel is valid October 5 – December 15, 2021. Travel to Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, or Belize is valid Sundays through Wednesdays. Travel from Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica or Belize is valid Tuesdays through Fridays. All other travel is valid Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Travel on days of week not listed above, solo travel, or in First Class will be discounted at 10%.

Quick Thoughts
If your travel dates align for this promotion, it’s a good offer that has the potential to offer some substantial savings. Finding dates that work for you could be the tricky part though.
For starters, you have to book by tomorrow (September 20), so there’s not much time to lock in your plans. Eligible flights are only valid on three or four days per week depending on where you’re flying to or from, with 12 days over the Thanksgiving period being blacked out.
If you can find suitable flights though, this could be a decent offer – especially if there’s a large group of you traveling. That’s because this promotion effectively gives you half-price tickets (rather than being BOGO as such) for up to seven people. That can lead to some absurd pricing. For example, I found one-way transcontinental tickets for seven people from Seattle to New York (EWR) for only $41.40 per person.
Those are Saver fares with limited seat selection, limited elite benefits and no flight changes. Main Cabin tickets were available though for a still-very-reasonable $66.40 per person one-way.

Per DANSDEALS you can use the BOGO to buy an extra seat for yourself. Which in many cases as you noted with your price examples is cheaper than the premium economy upgrade.
The other question is whether or not you earn miles/EQMs on both of those seats…
