Quick Thoughts

First off, if you’ve never had either of these cards, please don’t pursue these upgrade offers. Amex officially restricts new applicants from getting a new welcome offer on a card if you’ve had that card within your lifetime (in practice, 5-7 years). If you’ve never had these, but then upgrade to them, you’ll then be ineligible for a new card welcome offer on that card that you upgrade to…and the welcome offers for both cards are much more attractive right now than these upgrades.

Our Reasonable Redemption Values peg Delta SkyMiles at 1.3 cents each for cardholders, meaning the upgrade offers are worth ~$600-$750. That could be appealing for folks who are ineligible for the new card’s welcome offers and/or as an alternative to canceling for those with an annual fee due on the Business Gold or Business Platinum (assuming there’s no retention offer).

There are undoubtedly better ways to spend $8k-$12k if you’re in the market for a new card, but with so many people trying to maximize their Delta card spend, there are also probably at least a couple folks out there for whom these upgrade offers could be tempting.

This offer has been on my delta biz gold for 6 months. 50k for $8k spend and a $350 AF? Nope.

Lon

I have the Delta Biz Gold but have never had the Platinum. Instead of only getting 50k miles with the upgrade, I tried to sign up for a new Delta Biz Platinum but got the message that I’m not eligible for the sign-up bonus. Is this because it’s in the same “family” as the Gold? If so, I guess my best option is to just do the upgrade?

Tom

Ever have the Reserve Business?

Lon

No, have never had the Reserve Business.

Jack

FYI – If you upgrade from the Delta Gold Business, you might not be able to downgrade back to the Delta Gold Business. (That’s even after waiting the one-year claw-back avoidance period.)

Michael

I’ll try to find it tomorrow, but a week or so ago I noticed I had an offer on the Amex site to upgrade from the biz plat Biz reserve for 60k miles, but then on the DELTA website they had an offer to upgrade the same card for a 70k bonus.

WhereTo2Next

I received an offer in the mail for my personal Delta platinum. It is earn 60K miles for 4K spend in 6 months, and expires on 07/25.
I was wondering if it would be worth doing the upgrade. I am not doing a lot of churning right now so it may make sense to do the upgrade, and then downgrade in a year since I was just considering downgrading to the gold anyhow.
What do you think?

I am guessing it may make. Sense to upgrade first, then downgrade in a year.

If I already have this card, can I have two of them? Also, would it be a hard pull? Im buying a new house and I don’t wanna hurt my credit.
