UPDATE 4/29/21: With one exception, all of the enhanced offers that were originally reported to expire 4/29 are still available through May 5th.  The only exception is the Delta Gold Business card which has reverted to its old 50K offer.  Also note that Amex has increased the credit card limit to 5.  If you didn’t previously have a slot free for one of these great Delta credit card offers, you might now.

Original post follows…

The Delta credit cards are out with awesome new offers. Yes, Delta SkyMiles have devalued in many ways, but Greg recently showed how there are still ways to get good value out of Delta SkyMiles. Getting anything north of 1c each for 70K-90K SkyMiles makes for a great bonus offer that’s worth considering if you fly Delta (or just want to buy top-shelf booze in their lounges).

Quick Thoughts

These offers are fantastic. I say that as someone with no real interest in flying Delta or in Delta SkyMiles: even if you only get 1c per mile in value, you’re looking at bonuses worth $700-$1,000 on reasonable spend. Devaluations aside, you can still fly around on Delta pretty well with these bonuses.

The offers on the Reserve cards are particularly eye-popping between a large sum of miles and a pile of MQMs (and a big statement credit that isn’t even tied to making a Delta purchase on the business version). After meeting the spending requirement, one would have nearly enough miles for Silver status with Delta. Spending $30K on a Reserve card this year would give you more than enough miles for Silver and an MQD waiver up to Platinum status. And you’d be within a stone’s throw of Gold status given the bonus MQMs earned with $30K spend. If you rolled over any MQMs from last year, this could be a nice boost toward elite status without stepping on a plane, which could be very useful for Delta loyalists who find themselves temporarily grounded.

Delta SkyMiles isn’t the currency for everyone. They are becoming less and less useful for partner awards and if you’re looking to fly in international luxury, you’ll likely need far more miles than with competitors. On the other hand, if you’re more interested in domestic or North American travel, and especially if you have the flexibility to hop on unadvertised flash sales, these offers could be a great way to juice your balance.

I’ll continue to give SkyMiles a pass myself, but these new offers did raise my eyebrow, which is something to say for Delta. Overall, it’s great so see the huge welcome offers continue to come out on different cards – hopefully this is a sign of more similar good offers to come.

Saw minutes ago a signup offer 125k plus 10k MQM (after 5k spend in 3 months) for the Reserve Card using MS Edge…
(screenshot available)

Captain Greg

Got the 50k + $200 upgrade offer to delta platinum card. Is it generally better to do this or just do a new application for the 90k + $200 offer?

Greg The Frequent Miler

It depends whether you’re worried about staying or getting under 5/24. The upgrade won’t add a new account to your credit report, but the new application offers a much higher welcome bonus. If you’ve had the Platinum card before, then the upgrade option is really your only option.

Captain Greg

I haven’t had the delta platinum card before, but hasn’t the “one bonus per lifetime” been determined to be more like “one bonus per every ~7 years (when your account drops off Amex’s records)?”

Greg The Frequent Miler

Yes and sometimes they forget in less than 7 years: https://frequentmiler.com/bending-amexs-lifetime-rule/

Cameron

Got a Reserve upgrade offer of 60k miles and $300 statement credit. If I’m thinking of getting the reserve anyway, is this worth it? seemed like a good offer to me.

Greg The Frequent Miler

That’s a great upgrade offer, but it would mean that you wouldn’t qualify for the 20K MQM bonus that’s available through the signup offer. If the MQM bonus isn’t important to you, then it can make sense to go for the easier upgrade option instead of applying new.

30k MR referral, soft pull, doesn’t affect 5/24, $0 AF 1st yr & $50 CB. No brainer.
Oh, I guess it comes with 70k Delta Zimbabwe dollars too… Nothing’s perfect I guess.

Rjb

90k SkyPesos can get a free tucket from Jacksonville to Atlanta. BFD.

Mark

If you’re using miles, the ticket isn’t “free.” You’re paying with miles.

Maurice

I agree the cheap domestic redemptions are the way to go, as long as your city offers enough connectivity. I have a stash from previous a Delta Gold elevated signup bonus in the past. I have found some great redemptions for smaller ski city airports last year, as well as for next season. I recently booked SAN-BZN for 10,000 SkyMiles roundtrip for January 2022; it came out to almost a 2 cpp value.

NK3

Great find! I am heading to Hawaii next week, and getting about 2.5-3 ccp with the recent flash sale where roundtrip tickets were as low as 10K Skymiles.

Paul

I totally agree. The best use of SkyMiles is for domestic sales. Im searching for flight from Boston to Alaska during June and found a couple dates where its 24,000 SkyMiles round trip, which were almost 1.8 cpp value, basic economy, but totally worth it!

George

That’s just sad though. AA miles can still get you to Europe in business for 55k each way, United is a little worse but pretty close. Why deal with SkyPesos?

Christian

You had me until Delta.

ABC

Stockholm syndrome comes to mind.
I still have 6 figure skypesos left from the SunTrust DL debit card days. Very hard to burn even after numerous devaluations.
