(Expired) Bank of America Air France/KLM Flying Blue Visa: Best-ever 100K welcome offer

21
Update 8/10/26: This offer has expired. See our Best Offers page for current offer information.

Bank of America is out with a huge welcome offer on the Air France/KLM Visa Signature of 100,000 Flying Blue miles and 100 XP after spending a total of $7,500 in the first 180 days of card membership. In terms of Flying Blue miles, this is the largest welcome offer we’ve ever seen on the card.

XP stands for “Experience Points,” which are Flying Blue’s tier-qualifying points. 100XP is enough to get Flying Blue Silver status, which has a couple of useful perks.

Bank of America Application Tips

  • 2/3/4 Rule: Bank of America will approve a maximum of 2 consumer cards per rolling 2 months, 3 per rolling 12 months, and 4 per rolling 24 months.
  • 3/12 or 7/12 Rule: Similar to Chase's 5/24 rule, you may not be approved for a card if you have opened 3 or more accounts with any bank within the past 12 months. For those with Bank of America deposit accounts, the rule changes to 7 accounts in the past 12 months. Enforcement seems to vary.
  • 24 Month Rule: With some Bank of America cards, you may have to wait 24 months after either opening or canceling a card to be eligible for approval on that same card. This language varies from card to card and sometimes, applicant to applicant. Some business cards include language stating that you may be declined for additional credit card accounts if your business currently has, or has had, another Bank of America business card in the preceding 24 months. Again, enforcement seems to vary.
  • Application Status: Call (866) 422-8089 to check your application status or use this link.
  • Reconsideration: If denied, call (800) 732-9194 or (888) 230-6262 for reconsideration.

Quick Thoughts

First off, we generally don’t think that this card is worth a 5/24 slot. Flying Blue is one of the most “promiscuous” programs out there, and bigger bonuses of transferable currencies can be had with a variety of cards that transfer 1-1 to Flying Blue.

However, a bonus of this size is when the Air France/KLM card becomes interesting.

The 100 XP gets you to FB Silver status, which has the following bennies:

  • Earn 6 Miles for each Euro spent
  • Priority access at check-in, baggage drop-off and boarding
  • Get 25% off of Seat Options
  • Choose your standard seat free of charge
  • Bring an additional baggage item on all SkyTeam flights

It’s pretty unremarkable, except for the ability to get an extra checked bag on any SkyTeam partner, which could be useful both domestically and internationally if you don’t have Delta or some other SkyTeam elite status.

The card also gives you 5,000 anniversary points each account anniversary, as long as you’ve spent at least $50 during the previous year, and keeps your Flying Blue miles from expiring. Not terrible for an $89/year card.

This offer could be worth considering, even for those who are over 5/24, but especially for folks who are plumbing the depths of the beyond for new welcome offers (or who need the miles for a specific Flying Blue redemption).

Best uses for Flying Blue Miles

  • Air France Flying Blue Promo Rewards.  Each month, Air France offers discounted award rates for a number of routes.  Sometimes we see economy flights from the US to Europe available for less than 11,000 miles one-way.
  • Fly to Israel for the same award price as to Europe. For example, you may see business class flights from the U.S. to Tel Aviv for as low as 60,000 miles one-way.
  • Delta economy flights between the US and Hawaii for 17,500 miles one-way. Air France also has great award prices for Delta first class to Hawaii, but Delta rarely releases first class award space on its Hawaii routes.

Things to know

  • Air France awards usually incur taxes and fees.
  • Award availability can be hard to find. Acquire Flying Blue miles only if you know that the awards you want are available.
  • Flying Blue miles expire 2 years after the last activity on the account. Moving points from a transferrable program to Flying Blue now resets that clock, making it very easy to keep miles from expiring.

plumbing the depths of the beyond” LOL. yesss… I totally feel this. I’ve gone through almost every SUB available. I may have to consider this.

mari

Can you buy GC to meet the spend?

Seth

Is there an expiration date for this offer?

Gayle C

I am relatively new to FB but I do have award tickets for my family of 5 booked next year from Africa to the US. I am particular about seats and choosing them before check-in will be pricey. Will you experts please double check my understanding:
-5 business class award tickets booked on one conf # under P2’s name
-if he gets this card and meets the spend, he earns silver status which entitles him to choose seats for all passengers, free of charge(other than the AF for the card)

Does this look correct?

Mike W

This is a good bonus but before anyone gets this card thinking that they will be able to use it for Business class tickets they will be disappointed. I have been very flexible since getting this card 2 years go when 70k offer was live but I have not been able to find 2 two tickets from any east coast to europe any time of year at saver prices. Maybe others have better luck but I have been very flexible and have never seen 2 tickets available.

Jocko

You need to be VERY flexible. BOS-CDG is possible, although it’s more common CDG-BOS. There are 2 seats BOS-CDG on 7/27,8/8,8/11,8/19 available as of 7/26/26. There are numerous dates in August and early September for the return CDG-BOS. Yes, it’s hot in Paris in August. That’s why there’s availability.

The rest of the year there’s often no availability for months, yes it is very frustrating. But PE has availability and is not a bad way to get across the pond.

“… we generally don’t think that this card is worth a 5/24 slot.”

I generally don’t think that 5/24 is worth caring about. 😉

CB COOPER lll

5/24 is also (often, but not always) interchangeable with velocity. And velocity is something prudent people should be concerned about.

Jack

But not as it relates to Chase. Slaves of Hyatt will no doubt disagree.

JohnB

Yeah, I have given up on most Chase cards. Chase as a bank are greedy bastards. Who use internal rules to play god, meanwhile them and their employees do highly unethical things. Biggest market manipulator out there!

does this have the same benefit as atmos when paying rent through Bilt (3x to $50k?)

Jack

No

Any data points on getting this caed twice including the bonus?
What about if we had the priginal AF card before BofA just recently changed it?

Amol

If one had BILT Platinum and could get AF Gold, and was willing to put $25K on this card to get 240 XP in year 1, is it feasible to have those all count to the 300 XP needed for FBPlatinum?

Peter

It should be 260XP not 240XP with the card. But I think you can do it, you just need to get this card first and then wait a month or so before activating the FB Gold through Bilt. Then complete the SUB. Because you need the 260XP to all post during the 12 month FB Gold window. You’d then need 40XP more.

Prince

The timing is extremely important here. Assuming you already have BILT Platinum status, you need to sign up for the card. Work toward the sign up bonus but don’t earn the first part until month 3. At the end of month 2, trigger flying Blue Gold Status from BILT. Once that has gone through, you can spend to 25k on your air France card. You would get 100 XP sign on bonus + 160 from spending 25k on the card. Yu should get the 160 at card renewal before the 12 months of flying Blue Gold status are up. If you credit enough flights to get the last 40 XP you will trigger flying Blue Platinum status which gives you access to expanded air France award availability

Peter

I think that sounds right. Was a little easier to game out when the FB status match was live and you could just match to gold for $199. I’m not sure what DPs there are about when the account anniversary XPs actually post (T&Cs certainly give flexbility). So I think waiting the 2 months is prudent.

Krish

Just making sure that Im not missing anything here, is it okay if you active Flying Blue Gold Status via BILT first and then via the credit card? or the order outlaid above (Credit card first) matters?

Prince

It definitely matters if you want to get to Platinum. The gold expires 12 months after you get it and the extra XP from spend will come to you at the end of the first year of being a cardholder and not when you meet the spend. So you have to get the card first, wait to get the sign on bonus until after you get gold status but wait at least 2 months to do that. Then if you spend 25k on the card, you will get the additional 160 XP from spend before your gold expires. After the 100 XP from the sign up bonus you will be at 260 XP. You need to supplement with another 40XP in flights to make it to Platinum but not too bad if you get the rest of it right.
