Hilton has returned with a new sale that’s giving members a 100% bonus when buying Hilton Honors points through May 14, 2024. That means you can buy Hilton Honors points for 0.5cpp with this sale. Hilton usually limits members to 80K points purchased per year before the bonus, but they frequently expand on that, and in this current sale you can buy up to 240K before the bonus.
Note that this 100% bonus is targeted; some people are only seeing an 80% bonus which works out at a cost of 0.56cpp.

Best Uses for Hilton Points
- 5th night free. Use points to book 5 nights for the price of 4. This benefit is valid on longer stays, so if staying 10 nights you’ll get both the 5th and 10th nights free. Hilton status is required to take advantage of this benefit, but you can get that with the fee-free Hilton credit card.
- Save money on low category hotels. Hilton hotel awards start at 5,000 points per night, but those can be very difficult to find. 10,000 and 15,000 point properties are more common. These would cost $50 or $75 when booked with purchased points or less if using the 5th night free benefit.
- Stay at top tier properties for less. Most of Hilton’s top tier properties top-out at 95,000 points per night for a standard room, although some go as high as 120,000 points. With this promotion, 95,000 points would cost you $475. That’s not bad for top tier hotels which often cost $800 or more.
- Pool points with up to 10 other members. Hilton allows members to create a pool with up to 10 people to share points back and forth. This makes the effective purchase limit much higher when combining forces with other members.
Things to Know About Hilton Points
- When you book nights with points, you will not earn points for the stay unless Hilton is running a promotion that awards bonus points per night/stay which includes award nights.
- Most hotel taxes are not charged on award stays, so this can make the value of buying points even better. Arguably, this factor and the one above roughly cancel each other out.
- Resort and destination fees are waived on award stays. This alone can make it worthwhile to use points instead of cash for your bookings.

Just an FYI, points do not always post quickly. I know it says 48 hours, but most online forums say it’s pretty much instant, which I found to not be the case.
Purchased some points yesterday to top off my points and book a room that just showed up during a very popular event, at an unbelievable points price, likely a mistake.
Points still haven’t posted. Room is still available but I’m worried it won’t be much longer.
Called Hilton Honors and they say they can’t expedite.
I see 80% following the link. Does it vary, or is there someplace I should click on something to get 100?
The 100% bonus is targeted. I noticed that I was only targeted for 80% whereas my wife was targeted for 100%. I think I received the lower offer because I have a history of buying Hilton points when they are on sale; whereas my wife doesn’t with her account.
Only seeing 80% bonus
Buyer beware. I just booked a Hilton award stay using points and I did have to pay resort fees ($25/night), $12.33 for a 2-night stay and $14.28 in taxes. I bought points because I had calculated a better value than the 0.5 cents/point but ended up being less than 0.5 cents/point value after all the extra fees. Lost about $32 on the round trip but there was no way to see what the fees would be until I had enough points to make the booking.

An update. Called to discuss and the representative told me that the cost to book the second night was 62K instead of the 58K shown on the website. So I got charged for money+points for not having enough points to cover the higher rate. I had planned on just transferring in a few more points but thought I’d try to book each night separately instead. Low and behold the second night was 58K, not 62K, so I was able to book 2 consecutive 1-night stays and didn’t get charged fees or taxes. Very weird that the Hilton rep couldn’t see what I was seeing.

I used to value HH pts at par with IHG pts. I’ve been enjoying redeeming them at 5k properties which often charge $75/nt or more. Last month, a few 5k properties that I frequent and keeping my eye on, they’ve all jacked up prices double or more.
Effectively my valuation of the HH pts have plunged, when I look at many properties I like: Hilton, DT, GI, and even Hampton, I haven’t seen any of them yielding better than 0.5cpp I used to value/at value of this current sale. IHG OTOH, the award prices are often much lower than Hilton’s, and I recently got a lounge pass from IHG good till the end of next year, so elite benefits are now almost same (I am diamond with both). IHG sometimes have award price sales, which make them even cheaper than Hilton, while I’ve never seen (advertised) Hilton award sales.
I know people like to burn HH pts at luxury hotels, but I have no interest in (going and) staying at hotels like Conrad Bora Bora.
I’ve redeemed free night certificates at a Conrad which charged around 90k (no standard nights available the nights we stayed), while I’ve stayed at a very comfortable GI at 20k/5 nts. I thought I’d like much more to stay at that GI for 20nts than a one night at that Conrad for less pts (80k vs 90k pts).
Where can you stay at Hilton GI for 5k/nt?
I am getting low on points and thinking I might actually buy some, which I have never had to….but it is making more makes sense to me. Our last use of a big chunk of points was in FL near Disney. Can you say $45 (+tax) daily resort fee, and of course the tax on the room and other fees. All adds up real quick, and Hilton covers those all with point based stays.
Are these purchased directly from HIlton? I.e, would buying them with my aspire card earn 14x on the spend?
I believe(70% confidence) they are charged by points.com and don’t come with the multiplier on Hilton cards working.

The statement above indicates that you can buy up to 160K points before the bonus, but then you say:

This statement claims that you can only buy 80K points before the bonus. So which is it?
When I follow the link in the post, it’s only offering 80% matching, not 100%? I am Honors Gold via AMEX Surpass.
Odd. I just clicked through the link on my wife’s account and it showed 100% bonus for all purchases of 5,000+. When you get to the dropdown menu, it’s showing 80% on purchases?

I am looking at the Conrad Bora Bora Nui right now. I look at “flexible dates” for award stays. The best I’m seeing is 600,000 points per night and it goes up to 1.3 MILLION! What is the deal? Does anyone know?
Yes, the best awards, which those who were intent on going to this resort without outside suggestions were already eyeing, were outed by another blog recently and then picked up by the rest. Hence, all nights that were available for the standard points are now gone. You’ll have to choose another property or wait for the next time they open up new dates at the standard award rates.

If someone found award availability at Conrad Bora Bora organically on their own, that is 100% refundable, and didn’t book it, only to lose out because some blog posted about it — you know what? That’s their fault. I don’t care.
I agree with you, but I personally am not, nor do I know of anyone, who had been waiting and actively searching for award nights for that location and then didn’t book it when it was available. We know where we want to go next and that is what I actively search award nights for. I’ve stayed at that property multiple times using awards. I did have a free week booked for somewhere else, which I found “organically” too, but once the flights were cancelled (covid effect) then the resort shutdown. That’s one of the biggest problems for small islands. If flights aren’t getting there then the resorts have no one and just close for a while. That makes life difficult for those who work and live there. I felt far worse for them than I did for myself who was just a visitor. I understand what you mean and maybe came across wrong. I appreciate travel blogs for different reasons. FM is one of the best.
