Thanks, this just saved me $190! (Also: I did not see a “price match guarantee” notation anywhere on my account or while searching prior to booking, including where you said it would be, so I thought I wasn’t targeted – but then after booking, when I found the reservation in my trips, it said “price match guarantee” – I submitted and it was accepted!

I have had really good luck with Edit bookings. I love FHR but prefer Edit due to the ability to pay the balance with points at a good rate – I have never seen less than a 1.65 points boost on Edit stays (non edits are lower) and have gotten some 2.0. Excited to be able to submit price match in the future but honestly have found prices very similar/same to FHR and a good rate. Love your content!

Chase clearly doesn’t want this to ‘work’ or be ‘easy’ for anyone. They’d much rather you ‘give up’ and juice their profits. The fact that they’ve only enabled this ‘price match’ for *some* card members is yet another farce. Make it easy and for everyone!

Per the intro, I’m supposed to get my money back if it’s not 20 minutes or less, and this is 21:29. Can you please describe the FM money back guarantee process? 🙂
I mean, congrats on getting the claim approved, but I think what this episode really illustrates is just how weird Chase Travel is. Often overpriced, often rooms will not show up as available on the Edit when they are available everywhere else including FHR, credits that have a face value but when compared to the non-overpriced direct rate really are more like $125 versus $250… just such a poor program.
And as for this travel guarantee, feels like something they can market as having without, ultimately, actually having to grant many claims (even if yours was granted as a courtesy). So while a few, like you, may benefit, ultimately it will just add a layer of somewhat less than forthcoming marketing to a program that itself provides less value than advertised.
I’m glad someone else said this. What I will say is, Chase’s highly marketable but likely breakable benefits seem intentional and calculated. I think that everything we’re seeing in the Chase UR ecosystem is strategic and integrated.
Combine this with changes to Chase’s personal and business banking, my relationship with Chase is coming to an end. This has been a couple years in the making. The credit card stuff is just icing on the cake.
They’ve previously discussed the money back guarantee. You get it in “FM Bucks” which can be used at vegetarian restaurants on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6 and 8 am Nepal Standard Time at the rate of 10 FM cents per order.
As for the difficulty in getting a successful BRG through any program — they’re all set up more or less the same way, and the OTA has the ability to make the guarantee meaningless by manipulating the terms under which they list the rooms. They often start out fairly generous but, as the guarantee becomes a substantial cost, tighten up.
Yep, agree. Although if you have to get a vegetarian credit, the part of the world around Nepal is a great place to have one – lots of great veg Indian / Nepalese food that I’d happily enjoy for breakfast. Of course, as @1990 points out, the 45 minute deviation from most standard time (and 15 minutes from India) makes it a real hoot, although I’m sure there’s a wonderful veg breakfast buffet spread that can be had.

Ugh, UTC+05:45 is brutal… LOL.
