American Express sent out emails to eligible cardholders a couple of days ago, advising that you’ll need to re-enroll in the Hertz Gold+ President’s Circle status benefit if you want to continue having that status.

The email from Amex states the following:
As a Platinum Card Member, you’re eligible to receive Hertz Gold+ President’s Circle status through your Car Rental Privileges benefit. Due to a new and improved enrollment experience for your Hertz Status Benefit, re-enrollment in the status benefit is requested by December 31, 2026, to continue enjoying Hertz Gold+ President’s Circle benefits.
How to re-enroll
Log in to americanexpress.com, go to your Benefits section and select Learn More on the Car Rental Privileges tile. Once there, select Enroll Now, enter your Hertz Gold+ loyalty number, and review the Terms & Conditions to complete your enrollment request. Please allow up to 72 hours for your enrollment to be processed. We’ll send you a communication once your enrollment has been confirmed.
If you do not complete the enrollment by December 31, 2026, Hertz may remove your access to the American Express Customer Discount Program (CDP) from your Hertz Gold+ profile, and you may lose access to President’s Circle status. If this happens, you’ll have to re-enroll to verify your eligible American Express account to restore your Presidents Circle Status.
I found it somewhat amusing that this “new and improved enrollment experience” requires those who’d previously enrolled to go through the hassle of re-enrolling, but whatever.
I can often be a procrastinator when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I’ve just taken a couple of minutes to re-enroll both myself and my wife as I don’t want to forget about it until right before we next have a Hertz rental. Amex states that it can take up to 72 hours for enrollment to be processed, so it’d be a shame if we re-enrolled just before we were due to pick up a rental car and didn’t end up getting any of the President’s Circle benefits as our status request submission hadn’t been processed yet.
In addition to the benefits from lower Hertz Gold+ status levels like being able to skip the line and getting a free additional driver, President’s Circle elite status provides guaranteed vehicle availability, a guaranteed one class upgrade, and 50% bonus points on rentals.
As a reminder, Hertz Gold+ President’s Circle status is an available benefit for the following Amex cardholders:
- American Express Platinum Card®
- The Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Morgan Stanley
- The Platinum Card® from American Express for Schwab
- The Business Platinum Card® from American Express
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card
If you have more than one of those cards (or multiple versions of one of those cards), I’d recommend enrolling in the benefit on whichever card you anticipate keeping for the longest time. For example, it’s unlikely that my wife and I will cancel our Schwab Platinum cards anytime soon, so I re-enrolled us in this Hertz status benefit on those cards rather than one of our other eligible cards that we might close at some point and would thus later lose the President’s Circle status.

Signing in to Hertz Gold has resulted in HIGHER rate quotes for me.
I had email mismatch issue as well. I changed them to match on Hertz site, did the re-enrollment, and then changed the email back to my work email on Hertz site. Easy enough.
Hertz and AMEX need to address the ridiculous profile mismatch issues. There is no reason that one cannot have two different email addresses and still have the system align profiles with identifiers such as name, address and /or phone numbers.
My re-enrollment was rejected because my email addresses used for Hertz and Amex don’t match. That’s intentional, and I am not going to change either one. I am supposed to call Hertz. I think I’d rather schedule a root canal I need less than a Hertz rental…
My re-enrollment was rejected due to different first and last names on my accounts and I was told I need to contact Hertz. First of all, I checked, they are the same and it’s likely a middle name issue. Second, I’ve been on hold to talk to a Hertz agent for 30 minutes now. Is it that much better than Gold status that I should wait? Ugh, Hertz!!!
Are they still having customers arrested?
I think they finally figured out that you can’t charge somebody $300 for an imaginary scratch on their rental car if they are in jail.
I don’t think they figured that out. They are still pretty damn evil.
I follow the instructions exactly, but when I click on “Enroll Now,” it loads the next page while changing my active card to a closed Gold account, then says I’m not eligible. If I switch the card back to my Platinum, it puts me back on the main benefits page. Happened 10 times. I give up.
Hertz-people Hertz people…
Good work
LOL.
From my experience yesterday in the re-linking, Amex account and Hertz account having different email address results in a fail.
I had the same experience. After updating my Hertz account email address to be the same as my Amex account, I tried linking again and it worked.
Does it seem like there’s no way around setting them as the same?
I gave up on Hertz at the end of last year after 10 years as a President’s Circle customer. I rent two weeks out of every month. One year, I had a Hertz rental for 11 consecutive months. I just got sick of awful customer service, customers being arrested, increasingly worthless points and unimpressive vehicles.
I now rent from Enterprise now. They’re generally everywhere. The customer service is better and, on the whole, I find the vehicles to be in better condition. The only difference is Hertz had more vehicles with Sirius XM included. The loyalty program could be better. But they always resolve issues when they arise.
do i have to re-enroll even if my account shows a valid thru date of jan 1, 2027?
You are good until then if you take no action. To have the status beyond that re-link now or later.
I don’t know how much I value automatically unenrolling from Hertz as a credit card perk, but it isn’t $0.
