Hilton Grand Vacations is currently offering a good vacation package that requires attending a two-hour timeshare presentation. You get 2-4 nights of lodging in one of several specific locations, and 125,000 Hilton Honors points for as low as $229 + tax.

Danny the Deal Guru first spotted this offer, and it has quite a few more available locations than the usual Hilton Grand Vacations rigamarole. This version even includes 4-night options in Hawai’i (priced at $899-$1,099).

Nick once did a Bluegreen Vacations timeshare presentation and felt great about it. The presentations themselves are lengthy, but if you’re able to get your “no” face on and can use travel to one of the included locations, this could be a pretty good deal.

Quick Thoughts

Hilton Grand Vacations releases variations on this basic offer somewhat regularly. This particular one is applicable for many more locations than usual; ten in total, including options in Hawai’i, California, Utah, Arizona, and Washington, DC. Depending on when you stay, the cash cost for many lodging options would be an excellent deal… and that’s before considering the points.

In exchange for agreeing to attend a 2-hour timeshare presentation, you get 2-4 nights’ lodging and 125,000 Hilton Honors Points for $ 299-$1099 + tax (and an additional $19.95 for changes made up to 7 days prior to arrival). You buy the package now and then have 12 months from the date of purchase to use it. Note that the points will not post until after you travel, so you won’t get them instantly.

Our reasonable redemption value for Hilton Honors Points is .35 cents per point, so you’re getting around $425 in value from the points alone. Throw in several nights’ lodging and the deal gets interesting, especially if you already need to travel to one of the included destinations.

Timeshare presentations are notorious for being somewhat exhausting affairs. To prepare, it’s probably helpful to read Stephen Pepper’s Timeshare Presentation Survival Guide: Get your “No” face on.

I live in MD and called today about the Williamsburg property. They said MD and WV and Idaho are three states that you have laws prohibiting time share presentations. I tried offering a Massachusetts address where I have an office. Rep was very nice and said we would be charged rack rate if I shows my MD license. Maybe I should look into getting a Fake ID? =)

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Park City — The Yarrow Has been closed for some time now wonder where they’re actually putting people up

I called and they told me we would stay in Salt Lake City at a Home Wood Suites. Seems like a bait and switch.

Lukas

No New York City this time, bummer. Did it twice, would do it again.

Toddd

I did this years ago. Painful. Take last appointment of day if you must. They want to go home on time. The price was beyond ridiculous in Hawaii

Jonny

Not much of a discount to stay at a Hampton or Hilton Garden Inn. And burn two hrs hearing about timeshares..Nah

Matt from Philly

I would much rather be able to visit a Hilton Vacation Club property (St. Maarten), which is a wholly different brand (?) than this Hilton Grand Vacations list. Have there been reports/DPs of successfully “converting” a similar HGV promo mentioned in this article into a HVC deal?

George

is there a blackout period? or as long as there is hotel room availability, I can book the hotels? I have a set travel date already so attending the 2 hr session for a somewhat free lodging is tempting.

Daniel

The rooms available for these offers are limited. So if it’s a peak date, you can probably forget about it.

When I did an offer for NYC, many weekends (esp. holiday weekends) weren’t available.

I’d still do it again – I found it a great deal but I don’t have a problem saying no. My best advice is to set a timer, tune out the presentation, don’t engage/try to understand/ask questions, and just nod for two hours.

George

Thank you! Let me call and see if my date is available first before I jump on this “deal”

Also for other, keep in mind that it’s not uncommon for a rep to say something like ‘oh, don’t worry about finding occupancy on your specific, we hold back inventory to make sure we have something when you need it’ before you actually buy.

However, that’s only at best a half truth because what they ‘forget’ to mention is that there could be a ‘high season fee’ and/or an upgrade fee for your specific room type on the dates you want, or you won’t find occupancy at the property where you actually want to stay, instead you’ll find it with their ‘partner hotel’. Furthermore, keep in mind that they don’t provide transportation to the tour site so if you’re staying somewhere else it’s on you to show up where the presentation is being held.
