Quick Thoughts
As if things hadn’t been bad enough this year on the Hyatt front, what with category changes, entire award chart revamping, and most Chase Ultimate Rewards-earning cards moving to a 4:3 transfer ratio, it’s now decided to jump on board the ‘you’ll only earn bonus points from your second stay’ promotion train.
Having said that, it’s no doubt worth registering for this promotion. Earning 2,000 bonus points for every two nights you stay starting from your second stay is still better than nothing at all, even if it is capped at 8,000 bonus points (i.e. eight nights after your first stay). Those up to eight nights don’t have to be consecutive; even two separate one night stays after your first stay would earn 2,000 bonus points.
Depending on how many nights you’ll be staying during the promo period, if you have a category 1 hotel near you that has ‘Lowest’ award pricing available, it might be worth booking a one night mattress run there. That would cost you 3,000 points for the night, but it would open up the ability to earn those points back if your next stay after that was for four nights or more. Whether a mattress run is worth the effort for a maximum benefit of a net 5,000 bonus points is up to you.
What’s nice about this offer is that it works on both paid stays and award stays. Most other hotel chain promotions only ever offer bonus points on paid stays (Hilton is sometimes an exception), so at least this ‘from your second stay’ promo has that going for it.

Would this work to get the full 8000 points: a 1 night stay to activate the offer, then stays of 3, 1, 1 and 3 nights? All on points.
Yep, that should work
