American Express launched a couple of new transfer bonuses yesterday—a 30% bonus to Virgin Atlantic and a 20% bonus to Hilton.
That was a little surprising as it meant that there were five Membership Rewards transfer bonuses running concurrently which is far more than they’ve had in a long time.
Well, it appears that the launch of the two transfer bonuses was a surprise to Amex too as both have now been pulled.
My guess is that what’s happened is that these are two transfer bonuses that were meant to be launched on July 1, 2026, but they were released into the wild a week early. After spotting the error, Amex pulled them.
There have been times in the past where a Membership Rewards transfer bonus has shown up for some people, only to disappear the next time they logged in. That usually only seems to have happened with transfer bonuses to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles and those never had any kind of listed expiry date.
In the case of these latest two bonuses, the Hilton one was listed with an end date of July 14, while the Virgin Atlantic bonus was listed as ending on July 31. Those dates wouldn’t have been included if they were set up a la those occasional Cathay Pacific bonuses, so I think there’s a good chance that Wednesday July 1 will see them making a return.

I transferred 50k yesterday does that mean the 30% bonus will not be applied?
It should’ve displayed the number of Virgin points you’d receive when making the transfer. If it did, I’d assume you’d receive those. If you don’t end up getting the bonus points, it’d be worth doing an online chat with Amex about it.
Sorry, this was my fault. I made transfers to Virgin and Hilton last week so the universe was obligated to offer a bonus immediately after.

qatar is currently offering a 30% transfer bonus. If it’s set up you can transfer Qatar avios to British Air avios.
