Based in Muscat, Oman Air is a small but highly regarded airline that operates a fleet of just under 50 aircraft, has a somewhat limited route map, and is known for having a very high-quality business class product on both Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Its western reach ends at the UK, and the Philippines marks its eastern boundary.
Back in 2022, the airline announced that it would be joining the oneworld alliance and should be completely integrated into points/miles earning and redemption by 2024. Well, here we are in mid-2026, and redemptions using American AAdvantage miles just went live after the airline officially joined oneworld last year.

Quick Thoughts
For years, Oman Air was known for having a very high-quality first class product on both. In fact, some folks actually preferred it to more well-known Middle East carriers like Qatar and Emirates. The airline has officially retired it, and now only flies the Apex Suite in a 2-2-2 configuration (pictured above), as well as an enclosed “Business Studio” seat. I’ve never flown either, but both are reputed to be excellent.
I’m personally excited about the opportunity to use AAdvantage miles (and Atmos Points) on Oman Air, as it’s been a tricky airline to book, despite partnerships with Air France/KLM and Air Canada Aeroplan. Now that it’s joining oneworld, it will open up some fun opportunities between Asia and the Middle East, especially with Etihad and Qatar premium class availability at a, well, premium these days.
It sounds like Oman is increasingly using a 737-MAX with a recliner on some long-haul routes, so if booking, double-check that the business class you’re getting is on the 787.

just a technical correction, WY doesn’t fly any Airbus aircraft IIRC. 737s and 787s only
The ‘good’ Apex Suites biz class is only on the Dreamliners–the 737s (MAX or not) are all 2-2 recliners.
I’d rather fly Qatar: 15k Alaska miles and a heck of a hotel deal with the Doha stopover, AND if you play it right, the 2nd stopover flight if business class WILL get you in Qatar’s first class lounge.
can you elaborate on “play it right?” I have a stopover in Qatar coming up.
How long is your stopover? Is your second flight a business class flight? Supposedly, even if the second flight is business class, Qatar will recognize it as first class and let you in the first class lounge. I learned about this on another blog.
I should also add that my lounge visit is not part of the overnight Doha stopover visit. My first class lounge visit is from a flight booked from Yerevan to Cairo with a 6 hr. layover in Doha. I will use the lounge then.
Thank you. My layovers are 10 hours and 11 hours, and they are both overnight. All 4 legs are in business class. We intend to leave the airport both times and stay in a hotel. I was told Qatar sometimes provides free lodging, however, upon inquiry, they want $100/person. I can get a Hyatt for 4500 pts/night for 4 of us.
And yet… BA, CX, QR had this for a while, and no direct US-MCT flights, so would need to connect in Europe or Asia for this to make sense. Better for Stephen in UK, perhaps. Though, not a ‘great’ time to be visiting or even transiting the Middle East… *gulp*
