Wyndham and Barclays have evidently been busy recently because today has brought a whole bunch of changes to the Wyndham credit card lineup.

There’s a new premium card, new welcome offers, new benefits, new and changed earning categories, but no changes for existing cardholders.

New Premier card

Whew, there’s a lot to cover here. We’ve already shared details of the new $395 annual fee Wyndham Rewards Earner Premier card, so you can check out those details here.

New welcome offers for existing cards

Wyndham has—sort of—increased the welcome offers on its existing three credit cards: the Earner, Earner Plus, and Earner Business. The same number of bonus points can be earned with the same amount of spend in the same amount of time as the previous welcome offers that had been in force for the last few months. What’s changed is that you can earn an additional 45K bonus points on the Earner card or an additional 55K bonus points on the Earner Plus and Earner Business cards when spending $500 at Wyndham properties in the first 180 days of card membership. If you anticipate booking $500+ worth of paid Wyndham stays in the next six months, these welcome offers could be nicely rewarding.

Wyndham recently introduced the ability to earn bonus points when referring people to a new Wyndham credit card. Those referral links aren’t showing the increased welcome offers at the moment, but hopefully those will be updated in the coming days/weeks.

No changes for existing cardholders

Something important to point out before we proceed any further is that all the changes in the next sections aren’t applicable for existing cardholders. We’ve verified with contacts at Wyndham and Barclays that anyone who had an Earner, Earner Plus, or Earner Business card before June 17, 2026 will maintain the same annual fee, earning rates, and benefits as before.

If you’re an existing Wyndham Business cardholder, you might notice when logging in to your account that it’s listing a 20% discount on award nights rather than 10%. That’s a known error on the Barclays website; existing cardholders will still be getting a 10% discount.

Barclays has confirmed that they’re working to provide existing cardholders with the ability to product change to the new card versions in the future. That capability isn’t there right now, but that’s great news if you like the sound of the new cards but don’t want to apply for a new card.

Increased annual fees

The Wyndham Earner card is maintaining its status as a no annual fee card. Unfortunately though, the annual fee on the Earner Plus for new applicants has increased from $75 to $95, while the annual fee on the Earner Business card has increased from $95 to $149. That’s a more than 50% increase on the Business card which comes with some other negative changes, but also some good ones that could still make it worthwhile.

Wyndham Rewards Earner Business annual fee

New & changed earning rates

There are some changes to the spending categories on each of the cards.

Wyndham Earner

The no-annual-fee Wyndham Earner card used to earn — and still does for existing cardholders — 5X on Wyndham stays and gas, 2X on dining and groceries, and 1X everywhere else.

Going forward, it’ll earn 5X on Wyndham stays (including Wyndham Travel Bundles), 3X for Vacation Club, dining, and groceries (excludes Walmart & Target), and 1X everywhere else.

As you can see, it’ll no longer offer 5X bonus points when filling up with gas. On the plus side, dining and grocery earn rates increase from 2X to 3X.

Wyndham Earner Plus

The Earner Plus card used to earn—and still does for existing cardholders—6X on Wyndham stays and gas, 4X for restaurants and groceries, and 1X everywhere else.

The newly refreshed card earns 6X on Wyndham stays (including Wyndham Travel Bundles), 4X on Vacation Club, travel, dining, & grocery (excluding Walmart & Target), and 1X everywhere else. Travel purchases are defined as airfare, car rental, rideshare, gas, EV charging, tolls, and trains, as identified by the merchant category codes.

One downside of this is that gas has gone from earning 6X to 4X. A good thing is that more travel will now earn 4X. The Barclays landing page for the card doesn’t mention it, but the Wyndham credit card page does. We reached out to Wyndham to confirm whether travel as a category will be bonused, and they’ve confirmed it will be.

Wyndham Earner Business

The Earner Business card used to earn—and still does for existing cardholders—8X on Wyndham stays and gas, 5X for marketing, advertising, and utilities (telecommunications, cable, satellite, electric, gas, heating oil, and water), and 1X everywhere else.

The new earning rates are 8X on Wyndham stays (including Wyndham Travel Bundles), 5X for Vacation Club, gas, EV charging, marketing, advertising, office supply stores, and shipping purchases, and 1X everywhere else.

These changes could be a huge blow depending on what you use the card for. I think most people who currently have the Wyndham Business card got it for the 8X at gas stations. Thankfully, that’s not going away for existing cardholders, but new cardholders won’t benefit from that high rate; they will only earn 5X.

Utilities—telecommunications, cable, satellite, electric, gas, heating oil, and water—will now be entirely unbonused, so those will only earn 1 Wyndham Rewards point per dollar. New applicants will earn 5X uncapped at office supply stores and on shipping purchases, which could be popular for some people, but overall, these spending categories will likely make the card less compelling for spending rather than more.

New benefits

It’s not only earning rates that have changed; the cards have some new benefits too for new applicants (but not existing cardholders).

Wyndham Earner

Perhaps inevitably, given it has no annual fee, the Earner card isn’t getting any new benefits.

Wyndham Earner Plus

In return for an annual fee that’s now $20 higher, the Earner Plus is getting some new benefits.

The card used to come with Platinum status. It now offers Diamond status for the first year, then Platinum status from renewal.

In the past, Earner Plus cardholders received 7,500 points when renewing each year. That number is doubling to 15,000 points which easily makes up for the $20 extra in annual fees.

You can get up to $25 in statement credits every six months for meal delivery services, so up to $50 per calendar year, as well as complimentary Emerald Club Executive status with National.

If you ever book paid hotel stays with Wyndham, you can get even more rewards for those too. If you stay at least five paid nights in a calendar year with those stays paid for with your Earner Plus card, you’ll earn 15,000 bonus points, capped at 15,000 points per calendar year.

The extra 7,500 bonus points at renewal compared to before offsets the $20 annual fee increase. The potential 15,000 additional bonus points when staying five paid nights, up to $50 in meal delivery credits, and National Executive status are just gravy and make it more of a keeper card.

Wyndham Earner Business

The annual fee on the business card is increasing from $95 to $149—a $54 increase. Some new benefits will make that worthwhile for some people, but not others.

Historically—and still for existing cardholders—the business card offered a 10% discount on award nights. That discount is doubling to 20% for new business card applicants. If you anticipate redeeming a lot of Wyndham points on stays, that’s an excellent enhancement.

Like the Earner Plus, Earner Business cardholders will be eligible for Executive status with National Car Rental.

Like the Earner Premier, Earner Business cardholders now have access to a benefit giving up to a $65 statement credit for a wholesale club membership each year. If you have a Costco, Sam’s Club, or BJ’s Wholesale Club membership anyway, this benefit will likely be as good as cash and so it’ll more than pay for the annual fee increase.

New cardholders will also get up to $50 in statement credits each year for accounting software.

Final Thoughts

There’s a lot to both like and dislike with the card refreshes. Wyndham cards used to be very rewarding for gas expenditure. That’s no longer the case as gas is now unbonused on all cards with the exception of the business card. That card’s gas earning rate has dropped from 8X to 5X, so it’s no longer the compelling option it once was for new cardholders, especially considering how relatively cheaply Wyndham sells its points now. In the past, you could make the case that 8X Wyndham points on gas was better than 3X in a transferable currency. Now? At 5X? Not so much.

The increase in annual fees on the Earner Plus and Earner Business are a little disappointing. However, they do come with some new benefits that legitimately offset—and then some—the fee increase for many people. Barclays and Wyndham have at least done a decent job in adding potential value for new cardholders; it’s up to you to decide if you can extract enough value from the benefits to make them worthwhile on an ongoing basis.

Thanks Stephen!

P2 and I both currently have the Earner Plus and the Business. Seems like a no-brainer for us to both upgrade the earner plus card but keep the old business card. The $20 more per year for the earner plus (without losing anything since we will continue to get 8x on the biz card) for 7500 more points is worth it on it’s own without factoring in the new 4x categories, the $50 meal delivery credit, National status, and the 15,000 point bonus after 5 paid nights. For the biz card, I just can’t trade in 8x at gas for a 20% discount on point redemptions (which is probably the biggest advantage to the new card). I’m actually pretty tempted to add the new premier card for one of us…

Nathan

So the “old” Earner business earning rates are frozen now, and we should not expect it to get 8X earnings on EV charging?

Bob

Don’t like the requirement of spending 500 or 750 bucks at Wyndham hotels to earn the 2nd part of the welcome bonus. I hope this isn’t the start of a trend. The whole idea of earning a welcome bonus and points on credit cards is to NEVER actually spend $$$ at these places. At least for me anyways.

nycityny

Thank you for the excellent description of all the changes, and especially letting us existing cardholders know that we can remain grandfathered. Other sites showed the new features and I worried that my Business card would lose the 5X on utilities and the high 8X on gas. I was about to change the autopayment on various utility payments until I saw your post.

Christian

What’s a Wyndham point worth?

Max

Whoever held on to the old Business Earner just got rewarded for not jumping ship when the status matches ended.

Tony

Will everybody have the new higher fee and no 8x gas on WEB at RENEWAL or will there be indefinite grandfathering even past renewal?

Dan

This is really interesting. Most of the time you get a forced migration or a period of enjoying benefits from both the old and the new version. Banks don’t usually let you retain the old version of a card indefinitely when they’ve gone to the trouble of doing a full product refresh.

Tony

Many many examples of banks letting you retain old version: Citi Prestige, cheaper IHG and Ritz cards, Savor earning 4% dining with no annual fee. If they force migration of WEB, then it’ll be cancelled by many.

Chris

I have the cheaper IHG and Ritz cards, so I know it’s possible to be grandfathered for years. I’ve also heard rumors that Citi will migrate cardholders from the Prestige over to the Citi Strata Elite, but as of now, the Prestige and it’s Priority Pass restaurant benefit are still alive and well.

I even think I remember reading on a blog or Flyertalk about someone that still has a Wyndham card from 8-10 years ago that charges $75 and awards 15,000 so everything you say is true.

However, I am still surprised….One could argue that using the Citi Custom Cash or the Chase Freedom to get 5X (when it is a rotating category) is better than 8X Wyndham points, but I get 8X all year long and can set it and forget it.

There are also people that choose to have fewer cards that got the Earner Business solely to max out on gas and avoid thinking about the points and miles game.

Plus, there are very few cards that offer a high multiplier on utilities, like the 5X on the Wyndham Business. Someone commented today that they used the card to charge $10,000 in utility spend, across multiple properties, to earn around 50,000 Wyndham points per month.

I figured part of the reason for the refresh was becasue the current earning categories, gas and utilities, were not economically sustainable long term…

I admit that I am curious about the new Accounting Software credit on the refresh, but not enough to pay $149.00 per year and lose the existing earn rates on gas and utilities. The $65 Costco/BJs/Sam’s Club credit would be nice, but I already have the same credit on the Premier.

On the other hand, I know many people that cycle the Wyndham Earner Plus, especially the last time it offered a 100,000 point bonus.

I don’t like to cycle (cancel, wait, reapply, repeat) cards because of inquiries and also the affect on age of total accounts, but the new bonus structure, assuming it holds true over time…..45,000 points + 55,000 for spending $500 at Wyndham hotels, doesn’t do it for me.

I would rather put those nights and spend on the Wyndham Premier to earn the night bonus and higher multiplers on that card.

However, if, and when they allow people to convert from the old Earner Plus to the new Earner Plus, I will upgrade in a heartbeat. Paying $95 per year for 15,000 points, versus $75 for 7500 us an easy decision, especially because I can use the new $50 food delivery credit and my points, as a Premier holder, never expire.

Definitely don’t want new couponified Wyndham Biz. Hoping to keep $95 card earning 8x on gas.

Dan

Pairing the benefits of the old Business Earner card with the new high-end $395 card seems like would be a powerful combo for a true Wyndham enthusiast. Great earning rates, with a very solid 25% discount on redemptions, plus top level Diamond status.

Tony

No way I’m paying $400, Wyndham has frequent point sales whether or not you have the card, and Diamond comes on the old Biz card without the Premier.
