Quick Thoughts

It’s great to see this refresh that arguably makes the Green card relevant again after many years of not offering much of anything. While the annual fee has increased to $150 and is no longer waived in the first year, the card adds two new annual credits: a $100 CLEAR credit and a $100 LoungeBuddy credit, both of which are fairly unique and help differentiate it this card.

Amex has furthermore axed foreign exchange fees on the card and added two solid bonus categories:

  • 3x travel & transit (which includes airfare, hotels, taxis, and rideshares)
  • 3x dining worldwide

If you have some value for the CLEAR and LoungeBuddy credits, this could become a pretty interesting option to consider. Earning 3x on travel and dining, with the latter being worldwide, for a relatively reasonable fee (again, if you have some value for the credits) looks pretty good when compared against competitors.

Again, this post is to alert you to the changes — Greg will offer more analysis shortly.

If we already have this card, will we earn at those rates and receive the new benefits?
