Quick Thoughts
I can’t find this one in the ad, but Doctor of Credit reported it and it looks like several of his readers confirmed it. If you live near a Harris Teeter, this is an easy way to rack up some rewards if you’re using a card that earns one of the best category bonuses at US Supermarkets.
We have added this to our list of Current Visa and Mastercard Gift Card deals.

[…] Mastercard gift card promo at Harris Teeter […]
Some locations are not honouring the discount. They claim each franchisee has their own deals
only problem is Harris Teeter doesn’t take credit cards to pay for gift cards….cash only (maybe debit not sure).
That has been my experience as well with Harris Teeter
Yup forget about it. I have tried at least 6 HT in the DC area when they had a similar promo last year, all cash. They even wanted cash for a Starbucks card I wanted to buy. They are a complete joke
See the comments at Doctor of Credit. Apparently some people are able to buy them with a CC — might just be YMMV based on location. Several mentioned self checkout and that the self-checkout registers are hard-coded with a $2K limit inclusive of fees.
I have been trying the SC as well in DC, and as soon as you scan a $200 GC it wants an override, and then they tell you you gotta use cash. Must be regional for sure
It’s not regional. I’ve purchased multiple VGCs at HT multiple times within the past year (and some in the past week even), in Noma, Potomac Yard, Adams Morgan, Pentagon City, Alexandria, Ballston, Bethesda, Lee Highway…I mean, come on.
This is completely false. I’ve purchased tens of thousands worth of VGCs and MCGCs at HT in the past year. It’s not “YMMV,” it’s simply a fact that it’s allowed. Go to a self checkout and no one can stop you.
Concealing information is one thing, but spreading misinformation is another and one of the things I like least about this hobby.
I’ve never been able to buy a single VGC at self checkout. . . .
