Nature is healing, but in an unfortunate way. Pre-COVID, hotel loyalty programs liked to run promos that only rewarded you from your second stay. They thankfully did away with those types of promos over the last few years, but IHG is sadly going retro and running a new promo that offers you nothing on your first stay.

Key Terms
- To participate in the ‘2X Unlimited’ Promotion (the ‘Promotion’), an individual must have an active, valid IHG One Rewards member account and must register for the Promotion. Members can pre-register for this Promotion from 17 December 2024 until 31 December 2024 (the ‘Pre-Registration Period’). Members will be able to stay and earn IHG One Rewards bonus points under this Promotion beginning on 1 January 2025 and ending on 31 March 2025 (the ‘Promotion Period’). Members who did not register during the Pre-Registration Period may register for the Promotion during the Promotion Period. A member can only register once. By registering for the Promotion, a member accepts these Terms & Conditions.
- After registering for the Promotion, a member can earn 2X points beginning on their second qualifying stay and each qualifying stay thereafter, during the Promotion Period. For the purposes of this Promotion, a ‘Qualifying Stay’ is defined as a minimum one (1) night stay at a participating hotel booked under a Qualifying Rate, with total spend exceeding USD $30 (or local currency equivalent) for each night.
- As stated, the ‘Promotion Period’ is from 1 January 2025 until 31 March 2025.
- Room nights outside of the Promotion Period are not included, and room nights that are part of a stay which was completed prior to registration for the Promotion are also not included.
- Stays booked using Rewards Nights or Points & Cash are not Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stays for the purposes of this Promotion.
- Bookings made through online travel agencies or other reservation sites such as booking.com or expedia.com also do not qualify under this Promotion. (For additional details on Qualifying Rates, please see the full IHG One Rewards Membership Terms and Conditions.)
- If more than one member who registered for the Promotion checks into the same room, only one member is eligible to earn points under the Promotion for those nights that qualify.
- If a member books more than one room on the same night, the member will receive credit towards this Promotion for only one of the rooms that also meets the requirements of a qualifying room night under the Promotion.
Quick Thoughts
As you might be able to tell from the intro, I’m not a fan of promos where you only earn bonus points from your second stay. I could perhaps get on board with it if the reward on your second stay was something substantial, but earning double your base points doesn’t fall into the ‘substantial’ category.
I registered for the promotion anyway on the off chance that we have at least two paid IHG stays during Q1 2025, but this promo gives zero incentive to move any stays to IHG during that time period.
