PSA: Klook lets you book flights, car rentals, trains & more (stack with Amex Offer)

I wrote yesterday about a new Klook Amex Offer that can save you up to 20% on activities booked through the site.

In the comments, Kevin shared an extremely interesting piece of information. Activities aren’t the only travel-related things you can book through Klook. You can also book flights, car rentals, trains, airport transfers and more.

Klook Travel

You can access the Klook travel portal here. As you can see, the following types of travel are bookable through the site:

  • Trains
  • Rail passes
  • Car rentals
  • Airport transfers
  • Airport trains & buses
  • Flights

In Kevin’s comment, he shared the following:

Was able to get a one-way United flight in January for $300 cheaper on Klook vs. United directly, booked into regular economy, and stacked the Amex offer with Klook promo code ‘TRAVELLOVER’ for an additional $50 off the booking.

Amex offer posted yesterday. Only thing with flight bookings is that it’s not instant ticketing. It took about 6 hours (and lots of nail biting) but it came through ticketed and with all the details to easily port into the United app and handle seats, etc.

Being able to use a promo code to deduct $50 from the cost of a flight is awesome; being able to then stack the Amex Offer for an additional $80 is even better.

It was also fantastic that he confirmed that the Amex Offer statement credit has already posted. When I first started reading his comment, I was dubious about whether a flight booking would be processed as a Klook purchase rather than one processed by the airline itself. However, it clearly does work to trigger the Amex Offer which is great news as that makes it much easier to hit the $400 spending threshold for the offer.

I’m curious if flight (and other non-activity) bookings are also eligible for rewards after clicking through from a shopping portal. Considering the sometimes generous cashback rates available through portals, a case could be made that it’s worth booking flights via Klook despite the potential extra layer of complexity involved in the event of irregular operations on your day of travel.

Warning: Grant has shared in the comments below that he booked an Alaska Airlines flight through Klook. Despite looking like it was economy, it booked into basic economy. He tried cancelling within 24 hours, but Klook wouldn’t allow that. Although there is a policy that airlines have to provide a refund if you cancel within 24 hours, that’s only the case when booking directly. OTAs (Online Travel Agencies) don’t have the same obligation; some – like Expedia – do provide free cancellation within 24 hours, but Klook and some others don’t. It’s therefore worth being aware of that policy in case your flights have the potential to change or you’re concerned about being booked into basic economy rather than economy.

[…] afternoon everyone, I hope your weekend is going well.  A few weeks ago, I read Frequent Miler’s article: Klook lets you book flights, car rentals, trains & more (stack w… and thought it would be a good way to get a discount on an upcoming flight.  Nope! Klook turned […]

KEEPLOOKING10 takes 10% off flights, up to $300 off, exp. 12/31/24.

Capital One Shopping is offering very high portal cash back (I am currently seeing 22%). Does not seem to exclude flights, although who knows …

Stacked with the Amex offer, this could be better than a UR point redemption.

Visited Klook with the Capital One Shopping extension turned on. A few hours later got a targeted offer in my account (not by e-mail) for 22% cash back. That could be attractive with stacked with the Amex offer and promo code.

Laces Out.....Dan!

Don’t be a KOOK and use KLOOK

Michael

I wonder what happens if a flight is canceled or schedule changes. Can you go to the airlines or do you have to go back to Klook?

Tonei Glavinic

Not sure if this is better than what portals are offering (or might even be stackable??) but they have the option to earn 5x Turkish miles if you book through this page: https://www.klook.com/tetris/promo/turkish-airlines/

I just bought an Alaska Airlines flight through Klook. I thought it was normal economy, but when I added the reservation into my Alaska account, it shows that the ticket is Saver (Basic Economy). Is there a way to upgrade a basic economy ticket to regular economy on Alaska?

Grant

I chatted with Klook CS and asked if they could change the fare class for my ticket, but they said no. So I went ahead and cancelled the ticket. I would have gladly paid for a standard economy ticket if those fare classes were available.

Grant

They were not able to cancel my Alaska Basic Economy flight even after I requested the cancellation within an hour of booking. Now I’m stuck with a BE flight. I won’t be using Klook ever again 🙁

Grant

Sadly yes. I had low expectations of Klook customer service, but they were able to provide even worse service than I thought possible. I hope no one else has to deal with cancelling or changing a flight booked through Klook. Good luck if you do!

Grant

Here is their reply:

“Dear customer,

Thank you for your patience, we hope you’ve been well.

We’ve gone ahead and pulled up your booking to run a few quick checks on the below purchase:

Booking Reference ID: BTA#####
Activity: San Francisco – New York City

From your message, we understand that you requested a cancellation – as much as we’d be happy to assist you in doing so, we’re unable to proceed with this due to strict operator policies. We sincerely hope this is understandable.

We certainly see that this may be frustrating. However, the booking details on your original voucher will remain the same and are still redeemable!

We hope this doesn’t cause too much inconvenience and appreciate your support and patience while we looked into things for you.

Do let us know if you require further assistance.

Your Experience Specialist,
XXX”

Grant

I’ve added it to my Alaska account, but it said to contact the booking company to cancel or make changes and now I’m way past the 24 hour mark. When I am back home, I will contact Alaska and see what options I have available.

Grant

I didn’t know that. I assumed the 24 hour policy worked no matter where you booked the flight. Live and learn 🙁

Jeff

I checked and they sell Southwest tix too, though they are nonrefundable. However, for a trip I’m not going to cancel it’s worth it. Question: am I assured of being able to use my SW companion pass if I buy the ticket through Klook (or any other OTA)? I guess the question is whether it will take my RR# and show up in the SW app.

George

How did it go?

Jeff

Since it’s not refundable thro Klook I won’t book it until I know for sure that companion pass will work. Too risky otherwise.

Nick Reyes

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a Southwest flight where you can’t add your companion. I guess there must be something like if you win some sort of contest and get a free flight for the contest you can’t add your companion or something — but I’ve otherwise never heard of not being able to add a companion. I’d be pretty surprised if you weren’t able to.

Jeff

But what if they don’t allow you to add your RR number when booking through an OTA? Other carriers prevent you from getting benefits when booking from external sources so why couldn’t SW do that too? I know their technology is old but it sees simple to say prevent an OTA from adding a RR number, which would do the trick. Are there data points about buying SW from OTAs?

Tonei Glavinic

Honestly I don’t think WN is sophisticated enough to block it

T P

You could still get the credit in the SWA app if you cancel right?

Jeff

Klook says it is not cancelable.

[…] This is a good offer that seems to be widely available for most cardholders. You can book trains, rail passes, Car rentals Airport transfers,  and flights through Kook Travel as reported by Frequent Miler. […]

Steve

Just checked out Klook based on this post. Noticed, first, that Klook was a seriously glitchy website. Second, they have no Delta flights in their system.

Kevin

Me again 🙂 Appreciate the hat tip and hope everyone can find value in this great Amex offer!

Note: I did my purchase on Klook after clicking through via TopCashback, and it registered and now shows as pending cashback in my dashboard, so there’s a datapoint.

My flight booking also came through on my Amex account as a charge from ‘KLOOK TRAVEL TECHNOLOGY SINGAPORE SG’ which is helpful since it’s not coded as the airline you booked via their site as the charge, so it triggers the Amex offer.

Ben

What routing did you book on United? I’m looking at flight prices for EWR-AMS and United is selling for $400 and Klook is asking for $3,000+. Also a large price differential for EWR-LAX, so curious if you have any tips

Kevin

I did SJU-EWR for early January. No idea if there’s a rhyme or reason as to how their prices are derived, but my flight was $582 on Klook, when United was selling it for $903, all items/factors being equal.

Note that other airlines (B6, F9, etc) pricing on Klook, mirrored what was available on Google Flights. No clue why United was pricing so much lower. It did ticket, though.
