As reported by View from the Wing and God Save the Points, there are some great premium economy fares available from the east coast to Madrid on Air France, Alitalia, and Air Europa — with prices between $600-$700 in May and early June, all easily searchable via Google Flights.
This could be a great use of the Air France Amex Offer if you previously added it to your card (long since disappeared if you have not synced it). In fact, folks with a personal Amex Platinum card could earn 5x on buying the airfare directly from Air France and then additionally earn 20,000 Membership Rewards points on $1,000 spend. Assuming you were buying two tickets around $650 with the Amex offer, you should earn 1300 x 5 = 6500 + 20k Amex offer = 26,500 Membership Rewards points on top of frequent flyer miles on your flights.
On the other hand, some folks on the Flyertalk thread have indicated that AIr France’s premium economy product wasn’t that comfortable on the last go-around. Alitalia’s looks pretty nice:
