Quick Thoughts

I first came across Klook a couple of years ago when Carrie and I were planning activities for the Party of 5 challenge. At the time, we were planning on taking the team to South Korea and one of the activities we were interested in doing there was a DMZ tour.

Ultimately, we didn’t end up going to South Korea, but that DMZ tour research led me to a few sites offering tours such as Viator and TripAdvisor. Klook was another one of those options and it seemed like many of the tours listed on there were from the same companies advertising their tours on other sites like Viator.

That means that if you’re looking at booking a tour from a specific tour company which is available on all these platforms, it’s not generally going to matter which platform you book on other than that there might be different cancellation policies and different saving/earning opportunities.

This Amex Offer is therefore a good incentive to book via Klook rather than Viator et al as it can save you up to 20% on activities. The downside is that there’s a high spend requirement – $400 is a not-insignificant amount to spend on tours and other activities. However, if you’re booking a particularly expensive experience or for a larger family/group of people, hitting that $400 spending threshold might not be as tricky.

The other thing to remember is that the $400 spending requirement is valid across more than one purchase. That means that if you’re planning on booking various activities through the day after Valentine’s Day next year, multiple transactions will count towards that total. Payment is also taken straight away, so you could also book activities well beyond February 15, 2025 provided you pay for them by that date.

Klook also appears on many shopping portals, so that’s another earning opportunity – you can find the current rates here. At the time of scheduling this post, TopCashback is offering 14% cashback on most purchases. However, if you’re not planning on booking your activities immediately, it’s worth ensuring you have the Capital One Shopping browser extension installed and then have a quick explore of the Klook website. Hopefully within a few days you’ll receive a targeted increased rate from Capital One Shopping for Klook purchases. That’s what happened when I was researching the DMZ tours – a day or two later the portal sent me an offer for something like 20% or 30% cashback.

Successfully used this for a flight booking over the weekend! While activities seems like Klook’s bread and butter, the ability to search and book flights is buried on the website. Was able to get a one-way United flight in January for $300 cheaper on Klook vs. United directly, booked into regular economy, and stacked the Amex offer with Klook promo code ‘TRAVELLOVER’ for an additional $50 off the booking.

Amex offer posted yesterday. Only thing with flight bookings is that it’s not instant ticketing. It took about 6 hours (and lots of nail biting) but it came through ticketed and with all the details to easily port into the United app and handle seats, etc.

Just a data point this is potentially more lucrative for flights and also with the Klook promo code.

Had to do some Googling to find the details, but looks like TRAVELLOVER is 10% off your first purchase over $50.

So an ideal stack would be a ~$444.44 flight discounted to ~$400 after coupon and then triggering $80 from the Amex Offer, or roughly 28% off. And possible more from the shopping portal if it tracks on flights.

Don’t have any flights to plan myself right now, but going to try to keep it in mind just in case.

Doh! Wish I had waited a few days to book my Vietnam fast track with them.
Wonder if it’s worth it for Bangkok. I am not leaving the airport and have relatively short transit times, on separate tickets.
