When Chase revamped its suite of United credit cards recently, a couple of personal cards – the Club and Quest cards – received a new benefit that adds bonus Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs) to the cardholder’s MileagePlus account each year.
That benefit was due to take effect in 2026, but in a pleasant surprise some cardholders are being awarded the bonus PQPs a year early.
As a quick reminder, new United Quest cardholders will receive 1,000 bonus PQPs each year, while new United Club cardholders will receive 1,500 bonus PQPs each year.
Despite those benefits being due to start in a year’s time, some cardholders received an email in the last few days stating that their MileagePlus accounts had been credited with those bonus PQPs this year too.
It’s not entirely clear why they’ve been awarded in 2025 too, but we suspect that it’s only occurring for cardholders who held one of these cards as of December 31, 2024. For example, the terms for the Quest card state (our bolding):
Get a jump start on earning Premier status with 1,000 Card Bonus Premier qualifying points (PQP) each year. PQP can be applied toward your Premier status qualification, up to and including the Premier 1K level. Your Card Bonus PQP will be applied to your MileagePlus account within 6 to 8 weeks after February 1 each year, starting in 2026. Your Quest Card must be open as of December 31 of the prior year and must be open when PQP are applied.
Those terms clearly state that it’ll start in 2026. However, the fact that some people are being awarded the bonus PQPs this year too leads us to believe that if you already had the card at the end of last year and still have it, you’ll get this extra year of bonus PQPs. However, if you recently applied for either a Quest or Club card as a result of the increased welcome offers and/or new benefits, you won’t receive the 1,000 or 1,500 bonus PQPs respectively until next year as originally expected.
