TD Bank Cash Credit Card Review: No annual fee and uncapped 3% cashback

8

TD Bank doesn’t get a ton of love in points and miles world, primarily because it has a small portfolio of cards, no transfer partners and welcome offers that are rarely inspiring. That said, there is one TD card that has the potential to be an unsung hero for folks that are looking for cashback.

TD Cash Review

There’s not much that’s sexy about the TD Cash card. The welcome offer is usually uninspiring, there’s no great perks to speak of and the card only earns 1% everywhere. So why waste digital ink talking about it? The card’s one superpower is that you can pick one category to earn 3% cashback and each quarter and a second category to earn 2%…and the both are uncapped. The categories that you can choose from are goodies: dining, entertainment, gas, grocery stores and travel. The card has no annual fee either, so for folks that can take advantage of the uncapped rewards in one of those five categories, especially at 3%, it’s worth taking a look.

  • Annual Fee: None
    • Authorized User Annual Fee: Free
  • Foreign Transaction Fee: 3%
  • What points are worth: The “earned” by the TD Cash card are worth 1 cent each when redeemed for cashback or statement credits.
  • Best Use for Points: Points can be redeemed for cashback, gift cards, merchandise
and travel. However, the value never exceeds 1 cent each, so there’s no reason to do anything but cashback.
  • Earning Categories:
    • When you open the card, you start with 3% cashback on dining and 2% back at Grocery stores.
    • 3% back on one spending category of your choice each quarter (uncapped)
    • 2% back on a second spending category of your choice each quarter (uncapped)
      • Eligible Categories:
        • Dining
        • Entertainment
        • Gas
        • Grocery Stores
        • Travel
    • 1% everywhere else
  • Travel Protections:
    • Travel Accident Insurance: Up to $250,000 in the event of accidental death or dismemberment
    • Lost Luggage Reimbursement: $3,000 per covered trip ($2,000 for NY residents)
  • Purchase Protections:
    • Cell Phone Protection: $500/claim, $1000 and 2 claims maximum per rolling 12 months.
    • Extended Warranty: One additional year, on eligible warranties of three years or less (US warranties only).
    • Damage and Theft Protection: Covers new purchases for 90 days against damage or theft.
  • Who’s this card for? Folks that can take advantage of the uncapped 3% category and want cashback.
  • Is the TD Cash Card a keeper? It can be. The card has no annual fee and uncapped 3% and 2% categories, so if you’re pursuing cashback, it could be one to have and hold.

US Bank Smartly Credit Card has 4% cash back uncapped. Much better!

This is just a copy of what Venmo card has been doing for several year.

Thomas

unless i’m missing something, why choose this card over a savor card or a citi strata premier that earns 3% on multiple categories instead of just 1?

rocky_nnc

i need to look into strata and savor , i was looking for something above 2% in non-category, My Citi Costco does better with gas & FT Fees.

Thomas

Yea Costco 4% on gas, no fee
Freedom Unl is 3x (transferrable > 3%) on dining, no fee
Savor 3x on groceries, no fee
Tim’s point about some having Cap1 issues is valid for groceries but I’m getting 10x right now on my CFU that had a promo. Loving it!
