United and Marriott have had a partnership for several years whereby they offer status in one if you have high enough elite status with the other. They’re currently adding to that partnership by offering bonus miles or points when staying or flying with the other partner.
The Deal
- United and Marriott are offering the following reciprocal earning opportunities:
- Earn 500 bonus United MileagePlus miles when staying at Marriott Bonvoy properties
- Earn 750 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points when flying with United
- Direct link to registration (for people who already have their United and Marriott accounts linked).
- Link United elite status to Marriott.
- Link Marriott elite status to United.
Key Terms
- This promotion is only open to Eligible Participants. An Eligible Participant is a person aged 18 or over and is a Marriott Bonvoy & United MileagePlus Preferred Partnership Program member (membership terms and conditions apply).
- Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite members who have not enrolled in the Preferred Partnership Program, are eligible to register here and become eligible for the promotion.
- United MileagePlus Premier Gold, Premier Platinum and Premier 1K members who have not enrolled in the Preferred Partnership Program, are eligible to register at united.com/MarriottBonvoy and become eligible for the promotion.
- After registering for the Preferred Partnership Program, members need to register for this promotion at Marriott Bonvoy Travel Partner | United Airlines Landing Page between October 10, 2023, 12:00 AM EST and December 9, 2023, 11:59 PM EST (“promotion dates”).
- Eligible Participants will earn 750 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points for each unique United travel itinerary documented with a confirmation number and completed between the promotion dates; provided, however, that travel for an itinerary must start no later than December 9, 2023, 11:59 PM EST to be eligible. Only itineraries with flights operated by United or United Express are eligible. Flights booked with miles or money and miles are not eligible for this promotion.
- Eligible Participants will earn 500 United MileagePlus miles per qualifying stay with hotels participating in the Marriott Bonvoy program completed by December 9, 2023. The stay is eligible for the bonus if the Eligible Participant checks in and completes one (1) night of their stay prior to December 9, 2023, 11:59 PM EST. Point purchases or redemptions do not count toward a qualifying stay. Stay must be paid for in cash.
- Members who select miles as their earning preference in their Marriott Bonvoy account are not eligible for this promotion and will not receive the bonus, even if the other terms and conditions of this offer have been met. Eligible Participant must select Marriott Bonvoy points as their earning preference.
- All miles and points earned by each eligible participant from qualifying activity will be credited into the member’s account no later than December 31, 2023. United Airlines, Inc. will not be responsible for technical problems with Marriott’s postings, or failures or delays in postings by Marriott, that would render any activity as ineligible under this promotion. Marriott International, Inc. will not be responsible for technical problems with MileagePlus postings, or failures or delays in postings by United, that would render any activity as ineligible under this promotion.
Quick Thoughts
If you have Titanium status or higher with Marriott or Gold status or higher with United, it’s worth making sure your accounts are linked and then registering for this promotion even if you don’t currently have travel planned with one or the other. Well, it’s worth trying to register, but as is frequently the case with promotions involving Marriott, there seem to be registration issues. When visiting the registration page provided by Marriott, it said that I was logged into Robert’s account who has Titanium status and 12,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. This seems to be a dummy account, but it wasn’t letting me log out of that supposed user account and log in to my account in order to register for the offer. However, I played about with URL addresses and got redirected to this page; that let me log in to my Marriott account which then enabled me to register for this promo.
The way this promo works is that you’ll earn 750 bonus Marriott points when flying with United which is on top of the MileagePlus miles you’ll be earning as standard. Similarly, you’ll earn 500 bonus United miles when staying with Marriott which is on top of your standard Bonvoy points earnings.
750 bonus points or 500 bonus miles isn’t the strongest incentive to book with United or Marriott respectively, so it won’t be worth booking travel with one or the other specifically off the back of this promotion, but it’s always nice to earn incremental miles or points for travel you were already planning anyway.
Note that these reciprocal earnings are only available when booking paid flights or stays, not on award stays or award flights.
I am getting a “linkage error” even though I have a lifetime titanium status with Marriott and silver status with UA.
From reading the terms, it sounds like no matter which program you have high elite status in, you’re eligible for both types of earning (United -> Marriott and Marriott -> United).
But your post makes it sound like United status only gets you United -> Marriott earning and Marriott status only gets you Marriott -> United earning.
Am I missing something? Did I miss something in the terms?
You’re right – I’d misread the terms of the offer. Thanks for highlighting that, I’ll get the post fixed.
Thanks, registration worked. Wonder if this is a trial run to perhaps make this a permanent feature, similar to the link-up between Hyatt and AA.
Thanks! 500 United miles coming my way.
