Quick Thoughts

Saving 25% on Southwest award flights is a great deal, especially since it’s valid on both one-way and round trip flights and you can book Wanna Get Away or Wanna Get Away Plus fares. Note that the sale is valid for flights in the continental U.S. only, so should exclude routes to Hawai’i or the Caribbean. Orange County (SNA) is also excluded.

If you have any existing reservations booked using Southwest Rapid Rewards points, check how much those flights are now pricing out when using the SAVE25 promo code. If they’re cheaper when using the promo code, you can cancel your existing reservation(s) with no penalty and get those points back to immediately rebook using the award sale.

This award sale is due to run through June 17th, but it’d be best to book ASAP. The promotion will likely prove to be very popular, so with people potentially making speculative bookings, the number of points required for any given redemption could increase over the next couple of days, thus negating some of the benefits from this award sale.

The amount of excluded flights on this and the BDAY promotion this week is extensive, much worse than when I actually snagged some useful point sales last year. Almost anything with a connection is excluded and it’s hard to find availability other than random 5 – 7 AM flights even on short hops. Last year could find days where almost every PHX to LAS or LAX flight was on sale, this time sample days have one or no flight sales.

Southwest doesn’t owe anyone sales but the marketing is quite deceptive imo.

It says the code is not valid for my flights. July 10 and July 17. Makes no sense

Out of four booked SW flights i have in time period, three are significantly more expensive than when booked and the fourth is such a small amount of points to not be worth the trouble. Lol
