Sam’s Club is offering a one-day sale today, 11/9/19. If you’re shopping for merchandise, there are excellent shopping portal payouts: get 10x Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles or 10x United Mileage Plus miles per dollar on purchases (though note there are quite a few exclusions). Stack that with the Amex offer for an additional 4x at Sam’s Club if you have that offer available and you’ve got a fantastic return on spend. Unfortunately, the terms on those payouts exclude gift card purchases. I don’t know whether or not that is actually enforced, but with some gift cards available for as much as 30% off face value, it might be worth clicking through and hoping for the best.

Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on [the shopping portal] site. Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents

Quick Thoughts

Earning 10 miles per dollar on Sam’s Club purchases is a great deal if they have stuff you need at a price you like. With the 1-day sale today, there could surely be some nice returns on already-discounted merchandise. If you have purchases to make that are not in the excluded categories, earning 10 miles per dollar is a really solid return, especially if you’re earning Alaska miles. If you’re able to further stack that with an extra 4x in Membership Rewards points (if you have that deal synced), it makes for a fantastic return.

As noted at the top, portal terms exclude gift card purchases. That’s a shame since there are some excellent gift card sales available online at Sam’s Club today, including discounts on iTunes gift cards and many popular restaurants. While the best iTunes discounts are 17%, some restaurant gift cards are as much as 30% off face value, which certainly could make them attractive if you regularly dine at any of the included brands or could use them as a holiday gift.

Listing what is eligible would be shorter and easier to read.
