Quick Thoughts
We have seen Marriott hit 10x through American, United, and Ebates this year. In each of those cases, the increased payout was good for just 1 day — so I wouldn’t expect this offer to be around tomorrow (though it may come around again). Keep in mind that this will only be valid on stays booked through Mileage Plus shopping today, so previously-booked stays would not count unless canceled and re-booked.
Note that the terms state that miles are not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes not found on the Mileage Plus shopping site. That could mean that things like the AAA rate would not be eligible, though I did recently book the AAA rate through a portal and my Marriott purchase has tracked so far. YMMV.
Also keep in mind that that you could earn up to 9% cash back through TopCashBack or potentially 11% back through UseJewel (though I don’t have any experience with the latter portal). See CashBackMonitor to compare best rates.

Do I have to pay for the stay with the United Card or can I pay with my Marriott card and earn points?

As Mike says here, you don’t need to choose the advance pay rate. The points post after you stay. I don’t usually book stays way out in advance through something like this, so I’m not sure if there is a limit as to how far in the future you can book (one isn’t stated).
