Quick Thoughts
Many of the portal rates included here are quite good even if not quite the highest we’ve ever seen.
IHG could be a particularly attractive merchant for anyone booking hotels for summertime travel. Getting 15% back on top of earning IHG points, getting elite night credit, and triggering any associated card-linked offers could be a great deal. I’ve recently seen similar targeted rates via Capital One Shopping, but the key difference is that TopCashBack offers the chance to earn actual cash rather than rewards that can only be redeemed for gift cards. That makes 15% back at TopCashBack a better deal than 15% back via Capital One Shopping.
Keep in mind that you do not need to book advance purchase rates in order to earn the 15% portal cash — you can book a postpaid rate that you pay at checkout and so long as you click through from TopCashBack while the 15% rate is in effect, you’ll earn 15% back even though the rate will be different when you ultimately complete your stay. Keep in mind that if you ultimately pay for your stay with an IHG card, you’ll also earn the brand rewards for that — and if you’ve found card-linked offers that line up as well, you can stack a nice deal.
Keep in mind that you’ll want to click through the button for “IHG” if you want to book an IHG property. Oddly, specific brands (like Hotel Indigo shown in the screen shot above) are only at 9% back, but if you click through the “IHG” button that shows the 15% rate instead, you’ll get 15% back even if you ultimately book a Hotel Indigo property.
Keep in mind that it’s worth both using a tool like Cashbackmonitor.com to compare rates across portals and checking Capital One Shopping for targeted offers.
Forget TCB, they denied my ALL cashback that has tracked correctly on a nonrefundable hotel booking. They’re thieves!
Hey Kevin, if we have been declined for cashback it would be for a reason that is provided by the affiliate network for the retailer. If you could please drop us an email at contact@topcashback.com with the subject line DOC we can take a closer look to see what happened.
You say “keep in mind” a lot.
If you book an IHG hotel through the portal but using points, will you receive the rebate on incidental spend at the hotel?
Right after Rakuten just ran a week of 5X – 15X on almost everything, good run for shopping portals. Too bad Marriot has no elevated offering from TCB.
