amex offers sign up upgrade

American Express has recently been more aggressive with targeting current cardholders for offers. For example, several people have recently been targeted with sign-up and upgrade offers in the “Amex Offer and Benefits” section of the website.

Offers Available

We have received reports of the following offers being available:

  1. Upgrade various business cards to the Business Platinum and receive 50,000 Membership Rewards points after $10K spend in 5 months
  2. Sign-up for the Amex SimplyCash Plus business card and earn $1,000 if you spend $10K in the first 3 months or $500 if you spend $5K in the first 3 months.

See If You Are Targeted

To see if you are targeted:

  • Login to your American Express account.
  • Go to the “Amex Offers and Benefits” section for each card under your login. (Each card has its own offers.)

Need to Know

  • You are eligible to receive the bonus on the Business Platinum upgrade even if you have had the card before.
  • If you have never had the Business Platinum and you upgrade, then you will not be able to get a sign-up bonus for it in the future.
  • When upgrading, the annual fee is prorated until the end of the current cardmember year.

Also folks, dont forget that if you do the transfer quick, do the spend (simon mall vgc’s single purchase I suspect) and can get the points to post by oct 10, you can transfer them to ba avios at 1.5x normal conversion. Can anyone comment on ability to get the mr points to post that fast?

So…if I upgrade a BRG that I opened in February to a Biz Platinum they will prorate the annual fee (so that it would only be around $225) but would I still get the $200 airfare credit each calendar year, (so I could receive it twice before the annual fee is due again?)

Greg The Frequent Miler

Yes, as long as you get the 2017 credits in Jan/Feb and then cancel.

Frank

Funny, after they just took away my 100,000 points.

I’ll check the small print for cash-equivalent spending.

SDO

I’ll save you the time. It’s there.

Jimmy

Do you happen to know when the upgrade offer ends? And where to find the SimpleCash offer? Thanks

Greg The Frequent Miler

Business Platinum offer has to be accepted by 10/5
I’m not sure which cards have had the SimplyCash offer
