Paying the taxes and deposit (or an upgrade fee) on a free cruise could be a great use of this credit for those doing matches.

Quick Thoughts
Whether you’re taking a fully-paid or a casino-match “free” Holland America cruise, saving three hundred bucks is a generous deal. I was excited to find this on one of our credit cards because we’re going to do the Wynn Las Vegas match and so we both plan to book a Holland America cruise in the not-very-distant future. Given that we’ll pay additional fees to bring our kids plus the port taxes for four passengers, even the “free” Holland America cruises will cost north of $750 for our family of four — making for an easy expected $300 in savings.
Somewhat surprisingly, I only found this offer on one of my cards — and it was an authorized user card from one of my wife’s accounts. I’ll keep an eye on her cards in the coming days in case it later pops up on one of her primary cards so we can hopefully both use the offer on our own cruise bookings.
We already have a HAL cruise booked. Per the terms, I understand it’s only new bookings.
Is there any chance that if I were to buy $800 on board credit for this cruise, it may slip through the cracks and trigger the offer? I wish we could cancel and rebook the same cruise, and use the card for gratuities and taxes.
P2 got $300 off $750. We have Holland cruise offer from cruise match. Our tax and fee was $654, so we paid $200 extra to upgrade to ocean view cabin on 14 days Baltic cruise. P2 already got the email from Amex about we used the offer.
What cards do people see this HAL deal on? I always look + never see the offer.
My husband got it on his personal Amex Platinum. My Business gold and business Platinum didn’t have any offer.
Amex everyday. Got it last time on this one also and the authorized user. This time only the primary.
Amex Plat & Amex Gold
My wife ended up getting it on all of her non-cobranded consumer cards the day after I had it (she had it on Platinum, gold, everyday preferred)
I am seeing mixed reports online on whether HAL allows onboard credit to be used in the casino. I would like to buy $750 worth of onboard credit and cash out at the casino. I understand the T&C’s of this offer doesn’t exactly support this idea
Amex Offers are credits to your Amex bill. You charge your cruise to the Amex card that you signed up for the offer on the Amex website. Then when your Holland America charges hit the $750, Amex credits your Amex account $300. These offers are purely on the Amex billing side. The merchants subsidize these offers with Amex. But Amex does all the financial accounting for these offers.
Has anyone seen the offer on business cards such as the BBP?
In the past cruise lines offers for us would show up on BBPs and Everydays. This time it only shows up on Everyday.
DH’s BBP has an extra 1000 pts for $1000 spend, 3 times. That can stack with the HAL offer IF the card also gets the HAL offer also. Unfortunately at this moment it is only on the Everyday card.
I am torn whether I should add the offer now since a year or more ago HAL offer only showed up for a few hours then met the finite number of the offer, hence it disappeared when I looked back just half a day later. LOL
$250 on $1000 for players that previously used $300 on $1000
No way to buy Holland America gift cards with this offer, right?
0/7…..but I have used H A amex offers in the past, so it’s No Soup For You!
I got it again and used it last time, but I need RCCL this time.
Do you know if Holland America allows you to split payment when making a reservation?
You can split among as many as you want.
All cruise lines allow you to split payment for multiple cards.
