Quick Thoughts

Southwest is advertising this latest sale as offering “up to” 30% off which means that even if the route you look at is indeed discounted, there’s no guarantee that the discount will be as high as 30%.

The great thing about this type of promotion with Southwest is that it’s valid on both paid fares and award tickets booked with Rapid Rewards points.

If you already have travel booked during the eligible travel period, it’s worth repricing it to see if the price when using promo code 30SPLASH is lower. If it is, you can take advantage of this offer without needing to cancel your existing tickets by simply amending those existing reservations.

Just re-booked successfully! Inter-island flight (LIH to KOA) came out to just less than 3,000 Pts as opposed to Hawaiian Airlines wanting 8,500 around the same time.

It only worked on the 6 AM flight. Though it said promo code applied all the other flights remained the same.

I miss the days when Southwest just had actual low fares, instead of fares as high or higher than “major” competitors that they then occasionally discount. I’ve read some credible comments on sights like Slick Deals in the last day from folks who had been shopping for flights the day before this sale began and say SW raised the fares on the flights they were looking at and this 30% discount only brings the fare back down to around where it had been. If that is accurate, Herb Kelleher is probably turning over in his grave. I recall an ad campaign decades ago with the tag line “we’d like to match their sale fares, but we’d have to raise ours.” Not anymore.
