Alaska Airlines has released its latest batch of Global Getaways promotions. These are half a dozen destinations you can book award flights for with a discount of up to 50% and include Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, and more.
The Deal
- Get up to 50% off award flights booked in economy between the US and the following cities:
- Manila, Philippines – from 25K points
- Bangkok, Thailand – from 30K points
- Hong Kong, China – from 30K points
- Sydney, Australia – from 35K points (or from 25K from Honolulu)
- Auckland, New Zealand – from 35K points (or from 25K from Honolulu)
- The Cook Islands – from 35K points

Quick Thoughts
There are some fairly good award prices here, although be aware that the pricing is based on one way economy flights rather than round trip economy or one way business class which might limit the appeal somewhat, especially considering how long some of these flights will last.
It’s interesting that you can get a 10K discount to Sydney and Auckland if flying to/from Honolulu because there’s a separate award sale (that we’ll be posting about later) that’s offering flights between the contiguous US and Hawaii from only 7,500 miles one way. Booking flights to Australia or New Zealand could therefore be had for 32,500 miles one way rather than 35K with this sale alone. Having said that, even my frugal nature probably wouldn’t opt for booking two separate one ways for the sake of saving 2,500 miles per person seeing as the tickets would be on separate itineraries which could make it more of a hassle in the event of irregular operations, lost baggage, etc.
