Quick Thoughts
There are some potentially decent deals to be had here. The $39 routes are – as would be expected – on flights that cover relatively short distances such as Spokane to Portland and San Diego to San Francisco, but there are some good savings to be had nonetheless versus regular cash fares.
It’s worth checking the actual pricing too because in some cases the fares are even cheaper than the headline rates. For example, if you look at San Diego to San Francisco, the offer landing page says it costs from $39. When running a search though, there are many dates available from only $29 one way if you select Saver fares rather than Main Cabin.
Flights from 4,000 miles one way could also be decent deals. Be sure to check the cash pricing on those though, because if you have the choice between paying $29 or 4,000 + $5.60, paying cash would be the better value option. However, be aware that the lowest fares are booked as Saver tickets, whereas the award flights appear to be booked as Main Cabin. Both get a free carry on, but Saver fares don’t include seat selection, board last, get limited elite benefits, etc. The savings could be worth it, just be aware that if two or more of you are traveling together, you might not be seated together on a Saver fare.
