The Alaska Airlines shopping portal is back with another new promotion which has the potential to be pretty generous.
The Deal
- The Alaska Airlines shopping portal is offering the following two-tiered promotion:
- Spend $150 & earn 400 bonus miles
- Spend $300 & earn 1,200 bonus miles
- Direct link to offer.
Key Terms
- During the “New Year Bonus” offer, which runs from 1/15/2025 through 1/24/2025 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will receive a one-time bonus of up to 1,200 Mileage Plan bonus miles on qualifying purchases made through the Mileage Plan Shopping mall or from purchases made through Mileage Plan Shopping in-store offers.
- This one-time bonus award will be determined using one of the following tiers, based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: Tier 1 bonus: 400 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $150; or Tier 2 bonus: 1,200 miles for qualifying purchases of $300 or more.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles. Please see the Mileage Plan Shopping site for details on product eligibility and other restrictions.
- Please allow up to 10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus miles to post to your Mileage Plan Shopping account.
- The Tier 2 bonus provides the maximum number of miles that will be awarded.
Quick Thoughts
The bonus for the first spending threshold is OK, but nothing special. Spending $300 and earning 1,200 bonus miles is much better though as that represents a 4x return on that $300 of spend which is on top of whatever the base earning rate is for the retailer(s) you make purchases from.
A benefit of the Alaska portal is that it has an in-store card-linked program, with spend at participating in-store retailers also counting towards the spending thresholds.
Be sure to compare rates on Cashback Monitor though because even when taking into account the bonus miles from this offer, you might still get a better return via a different shopping portal.

There’s also a cvs offer for 500 after $50 spend that stacks nicely with this offer. “January 2025 CVS Bonus”
Will purchase at giftcards.com count towards this bonus?
Yes
Hey Stephen, thanks as always for this info. After the change in EQM earnings this year, do you think these bonus miles will count as well towards the 1k EQM per 3k AS miles from partner earnings? My initial impression is they won’t since they are “bonus” miles, but I can’t see anything that suggests they won’t count, in the T&Cs for both the EQM earning and the portal bonus.
My expectation is that they won’t be eligible seeing as that’s how it works with American and Southwest.
Having said that, there’s nothing clarifying that either way other than some vague wording on the portal about “unless otherwise stated…”
I’ve reached out to a rep at Cartera (the company that runs the portal) to see if either they can answer this definitively or perhaps pass the query to someone at Alaska who could clarify. I’ll let you know if/when we hear anything.
Thanks for the update Stephen!
