Wow. That was fast.
Just eight days ago, Alaska Airlines announced that its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines was complete. As part of that announcement, Alaska said that miles transfers between the programs would be possible within a matter of weeks.
They evidently meant “week” as it’s now possible to make 1:1 transfers between the programs.
What’s Happened
- It’s now possible to transfer miles between Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines
- Transfers are 1:1 and are limited at 500,000 miles per transaction

Quick Thoughts
This may be the fastest implementation of any airline rewards program promise that I’ve ever seen. Obviously, folks were working behind the scenes to set this up before the merger was announced as complete.
There’s no limit to the total amount of miles that you can transfer, but there is a 500,000-mile limit per transaction. The website says that it may take up to 72 hours for the transferred miles to show up, would love to hear some data points on how long it’s taking in reality (it seems to be instant based on the initial comments below).
Congrats to those of you who bet big (like Greg) during the last Amex-Hawaiian transfer bonus. Enjoy those Alaska miles!
I was able to transfer 60,000 points from AMEX -> Hawaiian -> Alaska using a Chrome browser. Everything transferred instantly.
forgot to mention, this was on 11/1/2024
[…] situation changed when it became possible to transfer HawaiianMiles to MileagePlan, as Hawaiian is a transfer partner with AMEX Membership Rewards. Now, you can transfer AMEX points […]
Did a transfer from HI -> AK last night around 9 PM; points didn’t show immediately, but were in my account the next morning.
So not instant, but less than 12 hours.
YMMV.
[…] Update 9/26/24: The ability to transfer miles is now live. Transfers are instant and you can transfer in multiples of 50 miles. Hat tip to FM […]
getting the following error message and names on account match. any ideas?
“You are not eligible for this exchange. Please check the FAQ section for more details or contact your Loyalty provider.”
did you resolve this?
Yes. Info was not totally identical between the 2 accounts.
Thanks. Recently made some changes (Combining HA accounts) so maybe that’s why I got that message…I’ll call it in.
I transferred 2K MRs from Amex to Hawaiian. They hit my account immediately. I tried to transfer to Alaska in Chrome, but kept getting an error message that I didn’t have sufficient miles. I tried in Firefox. The Hawaiian miles transferred to Alaska immediately.
Has anyone had issues signing into MP from the points.com storefront link? Whenever I try logging in on Alaskan’s site it give ‘unknown error’ message even though my details are correct and I can login to my profile fine.
[…] Alaska/Hawaiian Airlines Mileage Transfers Now Live: I’m really surprised this happened so fast, but this is great news for anyone who is collecting Hawaiian Airlines miles to transfer to Alaska Airlines. See this post on Frequent Miler. […]
50 miles is the minimum. I have 26 miles in my Hawaiian account and the site won’t let me transfer them to Alaska.
Scrape out beneath those couch cushions. Try transferring 50 miles from AS to HA, then 76 from HA to AS in a few days.
Great idea. 🙂
Transferred Amex to HI Tuesday. Transferred HI to AK Thursday night.
Booked AA flight through AK Thursday night. Thanks to FM episode I listened too on Tuesday. Wished I had transferred more now. But at least I did some.
3 attempts to transfer small amounts of MR points to HA. Each time, the transfer appears to go through successfully and then shows up on my MR activity page as “refunded” and in 20-30 minutes the amount gets added back to my balance. No success breaking through to HA balance.
Transferred 30k and it was instant for me
If you’re having trouble logging into Hawaiian Airines website to complete the transfer, turn off your VPN. I was getting all sorts of erros until I did that.
Are you saying you were successful transfering MR->Alaska?
I am referring to the HI > AK transfer process. In order to complete the transfer you’re asked to login to both systems. Logging in to HA was failing until I disabled my VPN.
I just tried to get the hawaiian air credit card but can’t get it to go past entering the 6 digit number (after trying the code on FM). Is that gone too? Looks like the regular offer with $2K spend is still there. Sigh…
i did a google search for “hawaiian airlines credit card application code”, clicked on getmyhawaiiancard.com “Secure Credit Card Application – Barclays” credit card link and it shows up with the 1 purchase offer so i applied and it went into review — fingers crossed
Thanks Joe. I did find a working 6 digit code that way and received an approval. Random 6 digits never worked as mentioned in reddit posts and the code on FM no longer works for the Hawaiian card.
