Quick Thoughts

This is the third month in a row that Bilt has offered a transfer bonus which is the longest streak since their rewards program launched a few years ago. Getting a bonus of up to 100% when transferring your points to British Airways, Iberia or Aer Lingus could work out to be a great deal depending on the award pricing and cash cost of the flight(s) you’re interested in booking. Don’t forget that you can transfer to, say, British Airways and then move those over to your Qatar Airways account as well.

The Lyft redemption bonus also gives a chance to get solid – albeit not spectacular – value from your Bilt points. Bilt launched a partnership with Lyft a couple of weeks ago, but the offering was in no way compelling as you’d be redeeming your Bilt points at a 0.7 cents per point rate which is very poor. The redemption bonus isn’t going to be worth it at the Blue or Silver levels seeing as you’d still only get 1.05 cents per point of value, but Gold and Platinum members will get a 100% boost, thereby taking the value to 1.4 cents per point. That’s good, but still not recommendable considering you can get better value than that by transferring your points to travel partners, particularly during a transfer bonus where Gold and Platinum members can transfer at elevated rates.

Note that the Avios transfer bonus and Lyft redemption bonuses have different offer dates. The Avios bonus is only valid on April 1, while the Lyft bonus is already live and will be valid through the end of April 1.

As a long-term speculative play, what is the expiration policy, if any, for Avios transfers? Relatedly, would a transfer now extend the expiration date of Avios in any or each airline program using Avios?

william

I did the November transfer at 100%. We got 2 roundtrip flights on Iberia business class out of Boston on the new A321-XLR, seats looks great. Tempted to do another transfer… maybe try Air Lingus?

Jack

You might want to first research Aer Lingus award inventory. Just a word of caution.

Jack

Air France or Emirates please.

Ben

They just did Avios, right? That was the individualized bonus?

James

It was November 1. VFTW had an article about it. The bonuses were targeted, and not necessarily based on elite status.

DSK

I was targeted for 100 % on November 1. Wiped out my Bilt account with a transfer to BA.

Todd

My household has three platinums and not one got the november avios offer…
