Breeze Airways frequently runs promo codes that give some kind of substantial discount on base airfare. Their latest is giving 45% off when booking round trip flights and using promo code DONTPUNT.

Quick Thoughts

A 45% discount sounds great, but bear in mind that the discount is only applied to the base fare – not the taxes and fees which might make up a large chunk of a fare. Also note that there are extensive blackout dates and reservations have to be made by tonight in order to use the DONTPUNT promo code.

I wanted to run some searches to see what the discount would be like in reality. If you’re not familiar with the Breeze booking process, it’s not like Southwest where you enter a promo code during the initial search screen in order to see the discount applied in the search results. Instead, you have to get all the way through to the final payment page before you’re able to enter the promo code. After clicking through from all the upsell options along the way from seats to bags to rental cars, it’d be easy to forget to apply the promo code at that final step.

As expected, the taxes and fees for a round trip flight from Norfolk, VA to Las Vegas were high, making up more than a third of the total cost.

Despite that, the savings were still substantial when using the DONTPUNT promo code seeing as it’s giving 45% off that base fare. The lower base fare in turn reduced the taxes and fees from $104.58 to $98.56. That meant the 45% base fare discount gave an overall discount of 30.5%.
