For a limited time British Airways is increasing the amount of Avios you can use to “buy down” the cost of a ticket.
The Offer
Available to book from today until 17 May, you can take advantage of using your Avios to save from $22-$450 when you part pay for your flight using Avios. Travel to London and beyond on British Airways or American Airlines flights between 10 May-30 September 2016.
Avios Part Payment Options
As part of the promotion, the normal limited Avios buy down options have been expanded. You can use up to 15,000 Avios to save $225 on an economy ticket or 30,000 Avios to save $450 on a business class ticket.
You can find the full promotional terms of the Avios Part Payment special here.
Combine Promotions
This Avios buy down option can be combined with the $400 AARP discount, but cannot be combined with the 10% discount for Chase British Airways cardholders. For more info on combining deals to save on British Airways flights, see: How to save big on international British Airways, AA, and Iberia flights. If you plan to credit your flights to American AAdvantage, you can earn up to a 25K bonus as well.

HT: The Points Guy
[…] (HT: Frequent Miler) […]
BA probably copied from Southwest who regularly runs points “sale” at 2 cents a point which can be redeemed at 1.5 cents.
I did this for the F sale this week. Their points are pretty useless to me, so I happily took 1.5 cpm. It made me feel better about spending $5,000 (actually $4,100 + 60k Avios) on two F tickets.
Actually, it was. That said 1.5cpm is not a promo you should be participating. They offered 2.5cpm last year
Too bad this wasn’t available with the business class sale which ended yesterday.
