Quick Thoughts

This is one of the best sales we’ve seen on Choice points over the last few years, so this could be a worthwhile purchase if you’re in the market for some Choice points.

The highest discount of 45% is available when buying as few as 18,000 points, so it’s helpful that it’s such a relatively low purchase threshold to get the maximum discount. If you buy 18,000 points or more, you’re looking at paying 0.57 (rounded up from 0.5665) cents per point.

Both Citi and Wells Fargo points transfer to Choice on a 1:2 basis which is a solid redemption option normally. However, transferring points during this sale period makes a little less sense.

For example, let’s say you need 50,000 Choice points for a specific redemption. One option would be to transfer 25,000 Citi ThankYou points. Another is to buy them during this sale for $283.25. Redeeming 25,000 Citi points in order to save $283.25 in cash wouldn’t be a great redemption option, especially because with a points purchase you can click through from a shopping portal to earn a little extra cashback, plus you can earn rewards from whichever card you buy the points with.

Speaking of whichever card you use to buy the points with, it’s worth paying with a Choice credit card if you have one. That’s because during the last Choice points sale a reader shared that you earn 5x or 10x (depending on which Choice card you have), despite payment being processed by Points.com.

I logged in and went to “Buy Points” and I have the 45% option. I did not use the link in the post.

Both on my account and my wife’s account, the maximum discount we’re seeing is 40% even when buying the maximum points (180k)
