Quick Thoughts
Buying Choice points for 0.64 cpp could make sense in some circumstances. While our Reasonable Redemption Value for Choice points is 0.67 cpp, when doing research to calculate those values, Tim found that at the 70th percentile you could expect to get 0.84 cpp of value when redeeming your points on award stays. As a result, someone with some flexibility to their travel dates and/or destinations could certainly get more value by buying points and redeeming them for an award stay rather than booking paid stays.
There are a few caveats to that though. One is that if you booked a paid stay, you’d earn points on the stay. You could also click through from a shopping portal on a paid stay to earn cashback/rewards, you might be able to earn bonus points from whichever promotion Choice is running at the time, plus you could earn bonus points by paying for the stay with a card that earns more at Choice or on hotel stays.
Also bear in mind that you can only book award stays with Choice up to 100 days ahead of time. That can be frustrating if you like booking in advance, so if you’re considering buying these points for a stay 4+ months in the future, there’s additional risk there that there’ll be no award availability when you’re within 100 days and/or that award pricing has increased.
If it does seem like buying points would make financial sense, click through from a shopping portal – here are the current rates.
Does purchasing Choice points extend the expiration date on points?
Nope. You never know what you are going to get with Choice. I have Platinum status, staying at their higher end properties like Cambria and Radisson. Just had a horrible Radisson experience, and reached out to Choice for assistance. Didn’t even get a response. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere in 2025.

I have found some absolutely fantastic redemptions with choice points internationally in Europe, Oz, and Japan.
Choice occasionally offers double points for points purchases made with Choice credit cards. If I am not mistaken, the Select card has a better offer AND IS WORTH WAITING FOR!!!!!!
I’ve found great redemptions in Italy and Japan. Not sure I would ever use them in the US though.
Agreed!
