Earlier this morning, we shared the news that Capital One has added three more transfer partners: Japan Airlines (JAL), Qatar Airways, and Preferred Hotels.
Japan Airlines transfers are sadly not on a 1:1 basis, instead transferring at a 2:1.5 rate. However, for the next month it is possible to transfer on an almost 1:1 basis courtesy of a 30% transfer bonus.

The Deal
- Get a 30% bonus when transferring Capital One miles to Japan Airlines Mileage Bank.
Key Terms
- Expires October 22, 2025 at 11:59pm ET.
Quick Thoughts
Transferring Capital One miles on a 2:1.5 basis could still get you a decent value redemption, but having the opportunity to improve that ratio for the next month makes it an ever better potential option.
The 30% bonus means that the ratio improves to 2:1.95 (i.e. almost 1:1). We don’t know yet how quickly transfers will take place; hopefully it’s be instantly (or near instantly), so please let us know of any data points you have now that transfers are live.
Be aware that in order to redeem JAL miles, your Mileage Bank account has to have been open at least seven days. You can still transfer Capital One miles in the meantime; you just won’t be able to redeem them before that week-long period is up. If you don’t have a JAL account, I’d therefore recommend getting one set up now to get that clock going, even if you’re not planning on transferring any miles in any time soon.
Nick will be publishing a post tonight sharing some JAL sweet spots, so keep an eye out for that.

Just adding a data point:
I created my JAL account over a year ago since I got a business-class ticket through British Airways. Just yesterday I transferred over 57k points to purchase another ticket – the points transferred over in seconds and I was able to book immediately.
So, at least from what I can tell, the only limitation is account age. May be worth creating a JAL account ahead of time even if you don’t plan to take advantage of this bonus so that you’re able to take advantage immediately with the next one.
According to this
Does that mean a JAL account older than 7 days but less than 60 days would be able to immediately redeem an award?
Yes, if you transfer in Capital One miles, you should be able to redeem those immediately in this scenario.
I just opened an account. I want to transfer C1 points to book a trip in October. I would have to wait 7 days to transfer the points and redeem them to book? Is the transfer instant?
When I made a JAL account, it had a notice about 60 days. It will be great if it’s only 7.
For JAL miles earned via flights, etc., you have to wait 60 days. For transfers in from Capital One or Bilt, you only have to wait 7 days from when the JAL account was opened.
WARNING FOR NEW JAL ACCOUNTS. There appears to be a (maybe new) policy that transfers to JAL take over seven days if you have a new JAL account. In my case, my account with JAL was open 34 days, but my miles transfer is stuck. No one at CapitalOne will give me a clear or consistent answer, but they seem to have a policy that requires a 7-day waiting period before they actually transfer the miles (the delay is the C1 side, not on the JAL side). JAL tells me that my account is active and ready to receive miles and blames CapitalOne. Regardless, do not count on opening an account and transferring miles without a 7-day wait. Maybe do a test transfer first. I transferred 600k miles, which are stuck in limbo. Now I have just have to pray the seats stay open. Not a great feeling and a terrible customer experience with C1. After this, I’ll be closing my account. I prefer Chase and Amex anyway.
Please some other Banks add JAL. Is this going to lead to a reduction of partner award space?
Transfer was instant on the 1000 miles I tested on a new JAL account. It does say 60 days though before they can be redeemed.
That’s the case normally, but for Capital One (and Bilt) transfers, that’s been reduced to 7 days for new members.
I’m hoping that is the case, and I transferred the miles from C1 because I’m not sure how they do correlation, if any, but I figured miles sourced from C1 would trigger something on my account if they are.
Can confirm, instant transfer, 2 week old account
But can you actually book a trip with the points now if you wanted to? Or do you have to wait 7 OR 60 days?
If your account is already older than seven days, you’ll be able to redeem the transferred miles immediately. If you only registered for an account today, you’d have to wait seven days before being able to redeem the miles you transferred in.
Great data point thank you! I just opened my account today and saw the 60 day warning so was worried but should still be able to get the transfer bonus if it’s only 7 days.
Where are you getting the info that JAL accounts have a seven day waiting period? The account I just created says 60 days
It was in the press release from Capital One. When JAL became a Bilt transfer partner, they obtained a carveout that Bilt transfers in could be redeemed within 7 days for a new account; Capital One appears to have done the same thing.

Were you able to see points cost of miles? All I could find was in $$$.
