As most readers likely know, today is the last day to apply in branch for the Chase Sapphire Reserve with the massive 100,000 point sign up bonus offer. Unfortunately, Julian at The Points Guy is reporting that Chase is experiencing technical problems with the in-branch application system that is preventing customers from applying via that system.
Obviously, this would be an incredible disappointment for people caught in the last-minute rush to grab this card before the bonus is cut in half. Fortunately, The Points Guy has received word from a reader that it may be possible to apply and receive the bonus even if the in-branch application system is not working. According to their source, Chase technical support is informing at least some branches to use the public online application link and then immediately call Chase Card Services to code the customer’s application to the branch.
Of course, this may end up being a bit of a headache — the online application only offers 50K bonus points. There is a chance that after you have met the minimum spend you may need to follow up with Chase and perhaps your branch to make sure that you receive the full bonus. Chase is normally good at keeping notes, but I would personally get the contact information of the branch agent who assisted in case you need follow-up down the road.
If you are interested in applying for the Chase Sapphire Reserve, I would not let this technical glitch dissuade you from making the trip to the branch today, but I would be prepared for it to take a bit more time as I imagine it may be slowing down the process at some locations.
We were in the nearest branch at 1:30 EST today and encountered this. The good news: my husband got his approval even though he is at 6/24 (and now 7/24). The branch mgr. was the one handing it and we have full confidence that she will make sure my husband gets his 100K. We waited until the last minute hoping that because 2 of his 6/24 will fall off within 2 weeks, that it would work out. There was an instant approval with a $35K credit limit. Who needs that?
I went in this afternoon. They told me there was an issue this morning but it was fixed when I was there at noon PST.
We had this exact issue today at our branch in Texas. I already had the CSR, but my husband decided last minute to apply for one also. He applied in-branch using the public online application link, and his branch agent called to code his application to the branch. Her wait time was 20 minutes, but we took her business card and she signed the back of it with the date and time, along with a short description of the issue we were having just in case we needed to follow up in a couple of months.
Chase needs to extend deadline through Monday. Ridiculous!
