Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport (Choice): Bottom Line Review

8

After spending three nights at Villa Copenhagen, my wife and I spent a night at the Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport before flying out the next day.

Situated the other side of the road from the airport and connected by an enclosed walkway, it’s a convenient place to stay after arriving in Copenhagen or before flying out. I probably wouldn’t stay there for a longer stay in Denmark’s capital as it’s a bit of a drive from downtown (which can be a pricey journey by taxi, Uber, etc.), although downtown is accessible by Metro within 15-20 minutes. No matter what, it was perfect for our one night stay.

Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport Bottom Line Review

The Clarion is next door to another Choice Privileges property – the Comfort Hotel Copenhagen Airport. The Comfort Hotel was 3,000 points per night cheaper, but the Clarion had a better and nicer range of room types bookable with points, plus I figured the Clarion might have a better breakfast spread than a Comfort property might.

Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport has a warm and welcoming design, both in its lobby and in guest rooms. The check-in process took longer than we’d have liked; there was a bit of a line, so we tried using their self check-in kiosks. That gave some kind of error message at the end of the process though, so we had to get back in line behind a couple of other people who’d arrived in the meantime. The front desk agent was friendly and competent, so it didn’t take long to get checked in once we were at the front of the line.

While our room at Villa Copenhagen felt somewhat prim, our room at the Clarion was much more inviting. It was far more spacious, helped by the fact that we were able to book a King Deluxe room using points. The lighting helped the room feel warm rather than sterile, we appreciated having both a work desk on one side and a couch on the other, while the bathroom was a good size.

The breakfast spread was extensive and is complimentary for all guests. The timing for breakfast is particularly good for people with an early flight as food is available from 4:30am.

If we need a hotel near Copenhagen airport in the future, I’d probably pick the Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport without bothering to look at other options as it’s such a good option – thumbs up.

  • Points Price: We redeemed 15,000 Choice Privileges points for our night. Choice Hotels is a transfer partner of both Citi and Wells Fargo on a 1:2 basis, so you’d only need to transfer 7,500 points per night across.
  • Cash Price: For our night the cost was $315.85 including tax. That’s absurdly high and when checking a random date in a couple of weeks, it was closer to $360. I’d never pay that much cash for a stay here, even though we did enjoy it.
  • Points Value: Very good, although the cash price feels far higher than justified. Still, it can make you feel good about redeeming Choice points as it means you can get 2+ cents per point of value, or 4+ cents per point when transferring Citi or Wells Fargo points.
  • Resort or Destination Fee: None.
  • Parking: Yes, although it’s not cheap. It costs 350 DKK per night which is ~$53.25.
  • Bedroom: There are at least three room types bookable with points. We selected the King Bed Deluxe Room, but based on photos on the hotel’s website it seems like we might’ve been given a King Bed Family Room instead. That was no bad thing as we enjoyed our room.
It was a large, spacious room with plenty of floor space, so if you’re traveling with several suitcases like we were, it won’t feel at all cramped. In addition to the king bed, there was a glass work desk and office chair, along with a sofa bed, additional chair and coffee table. There was a large closet, tea and coffee making facilities, a mini bar and other storage. The blackout curtains worked well, plus we had views of the airport and either the apron or runway (I forget which).
When arriving at the hotel via Uber, we noticed there were some airport luggage carts outside. We loaded our suitcases on to them to make it easier to transport them up to our room. Seeing as our room had so much floor space and the carts were the airport’s rather than the hotel’s, my wife had the excellent idea to simply leave all our stuff on the carts in the room. That way we didn’t have to unload everything and take the carts down, then have to find carts again the next morning.
In the bathroom, there was both a bathtub (with a pack of bath salts if you want a soak), as well as a walk-in shower and double sinks.
  • Housekeeping: Not really applicable as we were only there one night. Our room was spotless when we arrived though.
  • Turndown service: No.
  • Internet: This seemed to be very good. I had some work to do that night and had no issues, plus we were able to stream from our Fire TV Stick on the hotel’s TV.
  • Dining: The hotel has several dining establishments:
    • Main Restaurant – This is where breakfast is served, along with lunch and dinner. Early Bird breakfast is available from 4:30am-5:30am and offers cold items, juices and coffee. Regular breakfast is available from 5:30am-10am Monday-Friday and 5:30am-10:30am at the weekend. There’s a large spread from at least half a dozen hot items, an egg station, cold cuts, fruit, pastries, bread, cereals and more.
    • The Social Bar & Bistro – This is open from 10am-10:30pm Monday-Friday (with the kitchen opening at midday) and from 3pm-10:30pm at the weekend.
  • Club Lounge: No.
  • Spa: Their website lists a health club/spa, but I don’t remember seeing one.
  • Fitness Room: This was a good enough size for an airport hotel and had about half a dozen pieces of cardio equipment, as well as several weights options.
  • Pool: There was both an indoor swimming pool and sauna, but these were closed for maintenance during our stay in mid-March 2025.
  • Welcome Amenity: None
  • Service: The front desk agent was very nice when checking in.
  • Pet Policy: Yes, dogs are allowed. It’s 300 DKK (~$45.50) per stay for one dog or 400 DKK (~$61) per stay for two or more dogs. Note that the cost is per stay rather than per night.
  • Location: The hotel is opposite Copenhagen airport and is connected to the airport via an enclosed walkway, making it easy to get between the two without having to brave the elements.
If you don’t want to have dinner at the hotel, there’s a McDonald’s and Burger King a short walk away, plus there are obviously dining options landside at the airport. There’s a gas station next to the McDonald’s if all you want are a few snacks.
  • Elite Benefits: Not applicable – we booked the stay on my wife’s account and she doesn’t have any status with Choice.
  • Would I stay again? Absolutely. The room was spacious and very comfortable, the breakfast had a fantastic selection and being able to walk from the hotel to the airport without needing to step outside was extremely convenient.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Location – It only takes a couple of minutes to walk to the airport
  • Breakfast – It’s complimentary and extensive.
  • Bedroom – Our room was very spacious and decorated very nicely.

Cons

  • Check-in – Check-in took longer than anticipated as there was a fairly long line and only one front desk agent (who, to be fair, was working as quickly as possible). There are self check-in kiosks though if you can get them to work.
  • Cash cost – It’s decent enough value when using points, but it’s not worth $300+ per night in my opinion.

Outside the hotel there were airport luggage carts. My wife came up with the great idea to leave our luggage on the carts in our room overnight seeing as the hotel didn't need them returned

Hi! Always love your reviews. Must comment about the “plogging”-what a great idea! Happy Travels!

[…] Once again, I wrote a more comprehensive review of our stay over on Frequent Miler, so check out my full review of the Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport here. […]

You forgot to mention if your window faces the right way you can see Sweden from your room! haha. I actually enjoyed this stay despite it being an unintentional layover due to a canceled flight.

I am at the hotel and airport a lot. It’s still basically the Hilton CPH bones as it was.

Choice Privileges status counts for literally nothing at Strawberry/Nordic Choice properties, and the ties between Choice and the affiliated Nordic franchise licensee seem to be on a path leading to expiration.

Nate

It’s about spending Choice points, not earning and status. Read the review:

I loved this hotel when I stayed for one night a couple of years ago. My son and I were at a terrible hotel in Billund for the Lego factory and both decided to check out early because the hotel was so depressing (we were supposed to drive to CPH the next morning). I found the Clarion CPH using points and man it was awesome after leaving Billund. We had a great dinner and breakfast and a short walk to our flight the next day. Perfect!

Looks much the same as when it was a Hilton 10 years ago. I stayed a couple of nights and used the metro when we went into the city centre. I walked back into the terminal for breakfast or snacks.
