Delta award sale: Fly round trip to Asia from 30K SkyMiles (less if you’re a cardholder)

1

Delta launched a new flash sale yesterday which is discounting some award flights to select cities in Asia. The lowest pricing seems to be to Taipei, but Hong Kong and Tokyo might be of interest for some people too.

Round trip flights in Main Basic start at 30,000 SkyMiles, a figure which drops further still if you have an eligible Delta credit card.

Quick Thoughts

There are some potentially good deals here. The cheapest award pricing in terms of overall prevalence appears to be for flights to Taipei as those are available from only 30,000 miles round trip from cities including Boston, San Francisco, and Seattle + ~$40-$45 in taxes/fees. That’s for Main Basic; if you’d rather book in Main (in order to get a checked bag and seat selection), that’s available from 44,000 miles round trip.

Flights to Hong Kong are also available for 30,000/44,000 miles in Main Basic/Main respectively; I only found that pricing from Las Vegas when checking, but there might be other cities in the US that also have that pricing available. Hong Kong from Boston is available from 49,000 miles, with that pricing being the same in both Main Basic and Main, so booking in Main is a no-brainer in that case. Round trip flights to Hong Kong from San Francisco are actually cheaper in Main than Main Basic (44,000 vs 47,000).

Tokyo-Haneda airport might be worth a look depending on your origination city. From Las Vegas it’s bookable from 68,000 SkyMiles round trip in Main Basic and 80,000 SkyMiles in Main.

If you’re a cardholder of any of Delta’s current card lineup other than the Blue card, you get a 15% discount on award pricing. That means 30,000 mile flights become 25,500 miles, 44,000 mile flights become 37,400 miles, etc.

Be sure to check cash rates before booking these flights though because sometimes paid fares are so low that even these flash sale prices might not be a great deal.
