DoorDash DashPass annual plan now offers free Max subscription (but not for cardholder-earned DashPass)

DoorDash launched a new – and potentially valuable – benefit yesterday for DashPass subscribers.

If you have an annual DashPass subscription, you’re now eligible for a free Max with Ads (formerly HBO Max) streaming subscription. Before you get too excited though, if you only have DashPass courtesy of one of your Chase credit cards, you won’t be eligible for this offer.

Quick Thoughts

A Max with Ads subscription normally costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. If that’s something you already subscribe to anyway, it would be worth taking out an annual DashPass membership seeing as that only costs $96 for the year.

I was initially excited about this new partnership because Chase recently updated and extended some DoorDash benefits on some of their cards. One of those benefits is a free DashPass membership for Chase Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve cardholders which lasts at least a year, but if you enroll now it’ll be valid through December 31, 2027 – that’s more than three years. Being able to get both a free DashPass membership and free Max subscription for a $95 annual fee on the Sapphire Preferred card would be a killer deal.

It’s sadly not as good as that though. Although us Sapphire Preferred and/or Sapphire Reserve cardholders are eligible for a DoorDash DashPass subscription that lasts more than a year, the subscription itself isn’t an annual subscription that’s eligible for this Max with Ads partnership. If you already have that Chase card-related DashPass, clicking on the registration link will invite you to subscribe to an annual DashPass plan for an effective $8 per month (billed as a one-time charge of $96).

Like I mentioned above, if you subscribe to Max with Ads anyway, it’d be worth doing that even if you already have a free DashPass subscription. I don’t care enough about the Max streaming service though to pay almost a hundred bucks to get that, so I’ll just settle for our free DashPass.
