Air France/KLM Flying Blue launched its latest round of Promo Rewards a couple of days ago. These are award flights between Europe and select cities in North America that are bookable for 25% off the regular award price. That means economy tickets are available from 18,750 miles one way and business class from 45,000 miles one way.

Flying Blue Promo Rewards can provide the opportunity to get some decent enough value from your miles when flying across the Atlantic, but be sure to compare the cost of both the miles and taxes/fees (often ~$100-$150 each way) to the cost of cash tickets as sometimes you won’t end up getting great value, especially if you’ll need to transfer points from a program like Membership Rewards to your Flying Blue account.
The good thing is that award availability in economy is usually plentiful. There seems to be something a little goofy with the award pricing being displayed in at least some cases. For example, I did a search from Las Vegas to Rome and this was the result:
As you can see at the top, it says there are dates every month from June through November where you can book for only 18,750 miles which is 25% off the usual 25,000 miles pricing. However, the calendar display for June shows the lowest award pricing is – in theory – 25,000 miles one way.
When clicking through to one of those dates though, it does display the 18,750 pricing:
However, when expanding that option it shows the award cost as being 25,000 miles:
I’d therefore keep a close eye on how much you’ll be charged at the final screen if you’re planning on booking one of these discounted award flights.
