Quick Thoughts
There are some potentially good deals here if you don’t mind flying to Europe in economy as 15,000 miles one-way is a fairly low price, albeit with higher than average taxes and fees.
For those who can easily position to Montreal or Ottawa, being able to fly to Europe in premium economy from 26,250 miles or business class from 37,500 miles could be even more appealing. There’s even a surprising amount of business class award availability from Ottawa to Europe at the 37,500 mile pricing. For example, here’s what it looks like in November to Paris:
Interestingly, in addition to the list of cities with discounted award pricing to Europe, this month’s Flying Blue Promo Rewards also include a couple of specific routes available at a discount. New York to Algiers and Washington D.C. to Nairobi are both available at a lower-than-normal price when flying economy.
Don’t forget that Capital One is offering a 20% transfer bonus to Flying Blue right now too.
Air France is GOAT. We went to Europe in May and going again the end of October (to be out of the country for the election) thanks to them (and Frequent Miler and Travel Freely). We used to go on a “big” trip once every 2-3 years.
Why don’t you mention some typical taxes and “fees” ranges, like $150-300 for Eco, $450-600 for Business, etc., so we know Not to even bother searching for those of us who’d rather pay cash than 15k + $300 for an Eco ticket.
Where are you seeing $300 taxes for Economy? Or, even $600 for business? It’s much closer to $100 for Economy from US-Europe.
And about $250 for business.
It’s on the Canada to Europe flights, probably.
