Hawaiian card $100 annual companion discounts & 50% companion discounts now redeemable on Alaska flights

8

The Hawaiian Airlines business card comes with a one time 50% companion discount that, historically, could only be redeemed on round trip flights between Hawaii and North America on Hawaiian Airlines.

The personal Hawaiian Airlines cards come with one of those too, as well as a $100 companion discount after your account anniversary each year which also had to be used for round trip travel between Hawaii and North America on Hawaiian Airlines.

The fact that those certificates could only be used for round trip flights to/from Hawaii limited their utility. Well, there’s good news on that front because Travel With Grant noticed that those companion discounts can now be redeemed on North America routes operated by Alaska Airlines, removing the need to redeem them for flights to/from Hawaii.

The application pages for these three credit cards all display this new wording. For all three Hawaiian cards, the 50% off companion discount is described as follows:

Receive a one-time 50%-off companion discount for roundtrip coach travel between Hawaii and North America destinations on Hawaiian Airlines operated flights or roundtrip North America coach travel on Alaska Airlines operated flights.

For the $100 companion discount on the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite MasterCard® issued by Barclays and Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite Mastercard®, the discount is described as follows:

Receive an annual $100 companion discount for roundtrip coach travel between Hawaii and North America destinations on Hawaiian Airlines operated flights or roundtrip North America coach travel on Alaska Airlines operated flights.

The fact that both of these types of companion discounts can be redeemed for travel that doesn’t have to touch Hawaii makes them much easier to use. For those living near an airport with good Alaska Airlines service and who have someone they want to travel with, these companion discounts will hold far more value, potentially making the Hawaiian cards keepers beyond the first year.

Speaking of keeping the cards past the first year, Grant also reports that his wife got the annual fee waived on her Hawaiian card, so even if you plan on keeping your card open, it might be worth giving the bank a call at renewal to see if you have the same success.

Btw, another Hawaiian card benefit that’s still alive: the ability to combine points. But now you no longer have to do it in increments of 50. For the credit card holder: go to your Atmos account, then go to Rewards, click on Free points sharing under Card benefits, and send the invite to the person you want to get points from. Then the other person needs to accept the invite (click the button in their email), and then you can share points. I just used this to get 26 points from P3.

i used this a few weeks ago to book a flight to Boston on Alaska metal. This is not recent.

I just cancelled my card after first renewal but was also offered to waive my annual fee while on the phone with Barclays CS. Just didn’t see a reason to keep it open since I have a Summit card and don’t see a use case with the $100 companion certificate.

Although somehow I have not one, but TWO, of these sitting in my account, both with two different expiration dates late next year, even after cancelling the card.

Hey Stephen, thanks for linking to my post 🙂 I also wrote a follow up post about comparing the Barclays vs. Bank of America: Which Offers the Best Atmos Rewards Companion Fare or Discount Code? – https://travelwithgrant.boardingarea.com/2025/10/20/barclays-vs-bank-of-america-which-offers-the-best-atmos-rewards-companion-fare-or-discount-code/

As a current cardholder, as of 10/22/25, my account is still showing the old terms limiting it to “round-trip travel between North America and Hawaii”, for both benefits. Hopefully they are updated soon for existing cardholders.

I’m in the same boat. However, if I search for a flight within North America with my discount code, I see that those flights are eligible. So worth checking that you can apply it.

Those discount codes are now deposited into Atmos wallet. If you login and pull them up, T&C clearly state that they can be used on Alaska domestic flights. Round-trips only, no open jaws, one ways and multiple cities.

Also, the elite $10 inflight credit has been expanded on this card. Now this available to all Atmos elites (Silver through Titanium) on both Alaska and Hawaiian flights. Previously this was limited to Hawaiian flights for Pualani elites. Can use up to 10x per cardmember year.
