Hertz is currently offering rentals for $7.99 per day one-way from Florida and Arizona to select markets between April 17th, 2017 and June 15, 2017. Unlimited miles are included and rentals are limited to a maximum of 14 days.
The $7.99 pricing is available across many car classes, so you are not limited to the smallest economy cars. Availability may vary depending on location and dates, but here is what I found from Key West, FL to Boston for May 12 to May 17, 2017 (rates and classes were identical from Phoenix to Seattle):
Pick up and drop off locations are limited to specific locations as follows:
Florida
Pickup locations in Florida:
Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Key West, Miami, Orlando, Sarasota, Tallahassee, Tampa, West Palm Beach
One-way drop off locations for rentals originating in Florida:
Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Louisville, St. Louis, Albany, Boston, Buffalo, Burlington (Vermont), Hartford, Portland (Maine), Providence, Rochester, Syracuse, Baltimore, Washington DC, Norfolk, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Richmond, Roanoke, New York City, New Jersey, White Plains, Chicago, Des Moines, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Springfield, and Wichita.
Arizona
Pickup locations in Arizona:
Phoenix and Tuscon
One-way drop off locations for rentals originating in Arizona:
Burbank, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Ontario, Orange County, Palm Springs, San Diego, Oakland, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Albuquerque, Denver, Salt Lake City, Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, San Antonio, Bozeman, Billings, Boise, Fresno, and Colorado Springs
I had trouble finding availability to some destinations out of Arizona. While I had no trouble finding the $7.99 one-ways from Phoenix to Seattle, I could not find any dates to return to Bozeman or Billings, Montana despite both airports being listed in the eligible drop-off list. I thought that either drop-off point would have been perfect for an early summer visit to Yellowstone National Park on the way, but I wasn’t able to find dates to either of those airports (or Boise for that matter).
Still, this annual promotion can be great for a road trip. Check the full terms and look for dates here.

Yup, these deals from Florida going north are fabulous this year…. yet fyi, the great Hertz rate at $8 is actually beatable. Just reserved an 11 day rental (via Budget) from Melbourne FL to central Virginia. Rate was $4.95 day (from 1 day to 3 weeks) with a few taxes/fees added (namely a $2/da Florida airport doozy)… still, the whopping total came to… $94 for 11 days (with aarp discount to boot) Similar deals being offered for Florida one-ways out, via Avis & Enterprise Car rentals — yup, under $5.00 a day. (sic)
Your promo link in the first paragraph doesn’t work but the link to the terms and conditions at the end of the last paragraph does.
